Since this is Smith’s first choir competition she stated “I’m nervous about the choreography sticking more than anything, hopefully all the practice will help me become more familiar with it”.

TAKING AIM: Tyler McVey, CHS senior, draws his bow in Outdoor Exploration on Nov. 18. Outdoor Exploration is a fairly new class where students learn all about the outdoors and take part in fun activities like fishing, creek stomping, and archery. “Outdoor is one of my favorite classes this year because we get to go outside almost everyday,” said McVey.

TEARING DOWN WALLS: A construction safety light glows through the windows above door 29 on November 10th. Door 29 is currently closed due to the renovation of the Performing arts department. These areas when complete will consist of completely brand new practice and performance facilities for the Band and Orchestra departments.

CLASS ACT: Junior Ella Asher plays Miss Hatchett in the CHS theater show Because Their Hearts Were Pure during a dress rehearsal on Nov. 9. The cast performed the show live from Nov. 11 to 13 in the Studio Theater.

TOOTHPASTE FOR ELEPHANTS: Chem Club officer, Aakash Patel (junior) demonstrates the elephant toothpaste experiment at the Carmel Chem Club meeting on Nov. 4, 2021. Meetings have previously been held on Mondays, but will now occur regularly on every Gold Day Thursday. At the meeting, Patel and fellow Chem Club officer Manav Musunuru (senior) explained the science behind the elephant toothpaste experiment.

TEACHING MATH: Dylan Zenor, CHS junior, walks his fellow students through a math problem in Intermediate Pre-Calculus on Oct. 20. Intermediate Pre-Calculus goes into both calculus math equations along with introducing students to trigonometry problems. “I enjoy teaching other students problems because it helps me get better at doing the math myself,” said Zenor.

COLORING IN THE LINES:Sophomore Lillian Houck uses a black sharpie to color in a sign to beused in the upcoming fall play. On Monday, October 18 The technicaltheatre department began production of the fall play Because TheirHearts Were Pure. The show opens on November 11th and will runthrough the 13th. Tickets are on sale now at carmeldrama.org.

BREAK FOR BIKES: Sophomore Oliver Zhu works on a bike tire at the Carmel Cycling Club meeting on Oct. 7, 2021. Meetings are held regularly every other Monday in E206, however, this week the date was moved to a Thursday. At the meeting, Zhu demonstrated how to fix a flat tire and other aspects of bike repair.

HOMECOMING PARADE: Carmel’s volleyball team walks through downtown Carmel in the homecoming parade on Sept, 24. The homecoming parade kicks off the many events leading up to the homecoming dance Saturday Sept, 25.

The Tech Theatre program usually spends their time working in the scene shop adjacent to the Dale E. Graham Auditorium. Due to auditorium construction, the tech theatre program has had to temporarily adjust to working in more untraditional spaces like the outdoors.

New and returning members of the CHS club, Sprinkle of Joy, pick up snacks after the club callout meeting on September 8, 2021. Sprinkle of Joy is a baking and volunteering club that distributes homemade baked goods to the Carmel community. Sprinkle of Joy President and junior, Anabelle Yang, and Vice President and sophomore, Lorna Ding, presented new initiatives for the club as COVID-19 restrictions become less limiting.

DELICATE DRAWINGS: Nancy Zhang, Drawing 1 student and sophomore, works on creating realistic raindrops with a white colored pencil on Sept. 9 to prepare for an upcoming assignment in the class. When asked about the tedious process Zhang states In my opinion, the easiest part of drawing the raindrops is creating the gradient of light to dark.
