Statement from Studio in a School These last few days have left me overwhelmed, angry, and empty. The senseless killing of George Floyd, the multiple expressions of outrage over the aggressive treatment and deaths of black and brown people while in police custody, the peaceful protests, the riots. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. reminds us that riots are “the language of the unheard.” At Studio In a School, in the face of this tragedy and global pandemic, we know that now is the time to challenge our assumptions, reflect, and actively address racism in our communities. Studio in a School condemns brutality and violence against Black people and is committed to addressing racial inequity in this country, specifically, in the education system. Find a Program Professional visual artists bring their passion, creativity, knowledge, and skill to the classroom, guiding students to discover and develop their own creative expressions. Students who participate in Studio in a School programs receive quality art instruction and create quality work. We believe in the value of visual arts education in and out of schools. The Studio Institute offers programs for high school and college students seeking arts careers, provides professional development, conducts arts education research, and shares strategies with other cities. Let us work with you to improve the quality of arts education for students of all ages. Studio in a School is a visual arts organization partnering with public schools and community organizations in NYC and beyond.
