Given a choice between politicians and giant corporations on one side, telling us only the things we want to hear, and a news media on the other side telling us all of the hard things we do not want to hear, we should know who is telling us the truth. The 2020 Trinity Valley Exposition Youth Livestock Auction took place today. The Grand Champion Market Steer raised by Kailee Day of Tarkington FFA sold to Colony Ridge for $19,000.*The rest of this year’s grand champions are as follows: The Dayton Enhancement Committee conducted their Annual Trash pick up on Oct. 20 with a great turnout. Boy Scout Troops 8 and 2319 (Shiloh Grace) came out in force and together with Dayton citizens over 50 people picked up 35 bags of debris. The leadership of Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center (LDRMC) and the Liberty County Hospital District No.1, have committed to the long-term strategic goal of providing and improving care to our community. We have kicked started our Hardin 4H group meetings with new faces in a great community and was COVID safe. The second was better than the first one but unfortunately the Cleveland Indians put themselves in too much of a hole in the first 24 minutes and finished on the short end of a 49-8 score to Magnolia West on Friday night at Indians Stadium in a district tilt. On Thursday afternoon the Liberty Panthers hosted a Tri-Cross Country Track Meet with Hardin-Jefferson and Silsbee. Liberty’s Patrick Flowers ran away with the boys 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:43.96 to take first place. The 31st Annual Dayton Cross Country Invitational was held Saturday morning at Dayton High School and once again was a big success put on by Broncos Head Coach Michael Asbill and others. The Liberty Panthers moved to 3 and 3 on the year last Friday night with a hard-fought 14-6 loss to the Orangefield Bobcats. This loss has Liberty’s record at 0-3 in District 11-4A play. It was a very even matchup that gave the Bobcat boys the win on essentially two plays in the game; a long kickoff return and an intercepted Liberty pass. Given a choice between politicians and giant corporations on one side, telling us only the things we want to hear, and a news media on the other side telling us all of the hard things we do not want to hear, we should know who is telling us the truth. It might be a bit odd to share something like this, but I think it speaks to something very odd — or perhaps some people very odd — in our community.  One of our loyal readers, and we do have them, called our attention today to the following article from the magazine “Pathfinder” that ran in THE VINDICATOR on Aug. 7, 1952: My name is Ed Seymour and I am announcing my candidacy for the Liberty City Council. I have been a resident of Liberty for over 43 years. I retired from The Texas Department Of Transportation with 40 years of experience. The last 25 years I was in charge of Design, Construction and Maintenance of all State and Federal highways in Liberty and Chambers Counties. Barbara Wiggins, 84, of Liberty passed away on Friday, Oct. 23, at Cornerstone Hospital in Clear Lake. She was born on July 2, 1936 in Russellville, Kentucky, to parents Douglas Davis and Beatrice Woodard Davis. Wanda Lee Haynie passed away Friday, Oct. 23, in Liberty. She was born Nov. 1, 1937 in Houston to parents Clyde Lester Tissue and Alice Henrietta Everett Tissue, who preceded her in death; along with her brothers, C.L. Tissue and Charles Tissue; and her sister, Mabel Sellers. Emma Elizabeth Rush, age 74, of Mont Belvieu passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 20. She was born Sept. 9, 1946 in Baytown to parents Donald and Wanda Fisher Kerr, who preceded her in death, along with her husband, Jimmy Rush; brother, Marvyn Kerr; and grandparents, Schuyler and Emma Fisher. Wilson Norris, age 79, of Crockett passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, at his residence.
