DAYTON — Stakeholders and community partners assembled Monday for a workshop session to bring the Liberty County Strategic Plan closer to adoption later this year.

AUSTIN — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott appointed Kent Chambers, the recently elected Republican nominee, to fill the position of Justice Place 4 on the 9th Court of Appeals.

Chambers defeated Kenna Seiler in March with 63.2% of the vote and is unopposed on the November ballot, replacing former justice Hollis Horton.

LIBERTY — Tuesday evening brought joy and a bit of sadness as the community gathered at City Hall to celebrate the service of its longest-serving mayor, Carl Pickett.

Pickett announced earlier this year that he would be stepping aside after 18 years at the helm in Liberty and friends, family and other elected officials came out to wish him well.

BEAUMONT — The Tarkington Longhorns put together a nice 14game winning streak and finished as the Co-District Champion in 23-3A this past season.

On Friday night at Vincent- Beck Stadium, the Longhorns saw their season end at the hands of the Orangefield Bobcats 7-1 in game two of a Region III Area Championship.

Dianne Davis Caninenberg, 82, of Liberty, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024. She was born on December 19, 1941, to Max William Davis and Betty Williams Davis. Dianne spent her childhood in various cities in Texas and time in Mexico with her grandparents. She later moved to Anahuac, Texas, where she met her husband, Vernon Caninenberg.
