Report Card 2020:Significant efforts from successive governments, third sector, business and educationalists to date (individual policies, programmes etc) have helped some children ‘beat the odds’ of an unfair system but ultimately it has only gotten us so far. It hasn’t helped the most persistently disadvantaged and it hasn’t made the education system fully fair and never will. We the FEA have now been calling for several years for a more collective, system-wide approach to change which fundamentally makes the whole system fairer – starting with the premise of ensuring that our education system serves all children not just tinkering around the edges making an unfair system a bit less unfair. Our members have already developed a shared vision and this report shows how this is needed. The FEA members believe a fair system would: give all young people a rounded education so that they develop skills, are looked after emotionally and physically, and can achieve academically no matter their personal circumstances; engage parents and communities of all backgrounds so that education does not stop at the school gates; support, incentivise and reward teachers and leaders to enable all children to thrive, including by working in more disadvantaged areas; and give young people the knowledge, skills and awareness to succeed in life after school, whether that be in further education, higher education or employment The Fair Education Alliance is a coalition of 189organisations which aims to tackle inequality in the education system. We bring together diverse voices to lead change. We facilitate collaboration and support our network of members to work together to amplify and increase their impact. We use our collective voice and resources to achieve systemic change that wouldn't be possible alone. Our vision is of an education system where no child’s educational success is limited by their socio-economic background. This is a world where disadvantage no longer determines literacy and numeracy rates at primary school, GCSE attainment at secondary school, the emotional wellbeing and resilience of young people, participation in further education, or university graduation. You can find out more about the disadvantage gap in our latest report card.SCALING IMPACTFUL SOLUTIONSWe run programmes aimed at scaling innovation in education. Our Collective action campaign highlights these elements with rationale, case studies, resources and frameworks. Take a look at it here. POLICY AND INFLUENCINGWe seek system change by influencing policy in the UK.Although there is already a significant amount of knowledge, practice and understanding of what needs to be done and how, the current education system in the UK is not working for the most disadvantaged. In order for us to close this gap, we want to see the newly elected government commit to tackling educational inequalities by focusing on the three main priorities laid out in our collective manifesto.
