GLOBAL CHEFS CHALLENGE

The Global Chefs Challenge is where the world’s top chefs meet to compete in three competition categories: the Global Chefs Challenge, the Global Pastry Chefs Challenge, and the Global Young Chefs Challenge.

Selected through top performance at the Culinary World Cup and the Worldchefs Regional Semi-Finals, qualifying teams go head to head at the Global Chef Challenge Final. Here, the best and brightest convene to show mastery in the culinary arts.

The Global Chefs Challenge Final will be held at Worldchefs Congress & Expo in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from 30 May to 2 June 2022.

GLOBAL CHEFS CHALLENGE

In the Global Chefs Challenge category, the best chefs in the world compete to show their skills in the kitchen and their adaptability under fire.

Their culinary creations must follow guidelines such as being appetizing and tasteful, while also showing off exemplary plating for ease of service.

GLOBAL YOUNG CHEFS CHALLENGE – THE HANS BUESCHKENS TROPHY

The Global Young Chefs Challenge features the emerging talent of chefs who are born after Jan 1st 1995. The top Young Chef competitor is awarded the Hans Bueschkens Trophy. Its namesake, former Worldchefs president Chef Hans J. Bueschkens, advocated for the inclusion of programs designed to promote and groom young people for a career in the kitchen.

GLOBAL PASTRY CHEFS CHALLENGE

The Global Pastry Chef Challenge features the crème de la crème in pastry competition.

Competitors work to prove they can meet the standards of the world’s most modern patisseries, while showing an appeal to the five senses along with knowledge, extraordinary technique and of course, versatility.

THE ROAD TO VICTORY

For the Global Chef Challenge Final, 40 teams will compete across 3 categories: the Global Chefs Challenge, the Global Pastry Chefs Challenge, and the Global Young Chefs Challenge.

The host country for the Global Chefs Challenge Final receives a “wild card” position for their team in each of the 3 categories.

12 teams representing the highest scored performers in Hot Kitchen at the Culinary World Cup automatically qualify as competitors in the Global Chefs Challenge category.

2 teams representing the top competitors in Pastry Arts at the Culinary World Cup automatically qualify for the Global Pastry Chef Challenge category.

The final 2 prequalifying teams represent the top Youth National Teams in Hot Kitchen at the Culinary World Cup, automatically qualifying for the respective Global Young Chefs Challenge category.

The remaining teams to join the competition ranks must first advance through national qualifying rounds before moving on to Regional Semi-Finals. These 7 regional winners then advance to the world stage to compete for top honors alongside the prequalifying Culinary World Cup contenders at the Global Chef Challenge Finals.

Following the postponement and cancellation of the 2020 FInal events, Worldchefs Board and Culinary Competition Committee have adjusted the age limit for competition in the Global Chefs Challenge events for 2022. The age limit for Abu Dhabi will be changed for the Young Chefs and Commis Chefs to reflect that they be born after 1st January 1995. This will allow all competitors who have been in training the opportunity to showcase their skills in Abu Dhabi.

QUALIFYING TEAMS FROM THE 2018 CULINARY WORLD CUP

The Culinary World Cup was held in Luxembourg on the 24-28th of November 2018. Organized by Worldchefs member Valel Club Luxembourg, the Culinary World Cup is one of the largest and most respected global culinary competitions. The top performing teams in each category automatically qualified for the 2022 Global Chefs Challenge Final.
