OCLC, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and Battelle are conducting research on how long the COVID-19 virus survives on materials that are prevalent in libraries, archives, and museums. The project will draw upon the research to produce authoritative, science-based information on how—or if— materials can be handled to mitigate exposure to staff and visitors. In this edition of our Social Library series, we’re highlighting ways libraries are demonstrating their commitment to antiracism, providing resources and programming for patrons of all ages. Read more The REALM project’s primary aim is tocreate and distribute science-based, authoritative information to inform decisions designed to reduce risk of transmission of COVID-19to staff and visitors who are engaging in the delivery or use ofarchival, library, andmuseum services. This information includesliterature reviews ofpublished scientific research and the results of labtesting on a variety of commonly used materials. The project is also collecting, curating, and sharing information and resources produced by other organizations that support plans to resume operations and reopen archives, libraries, and museums. The main purpose of performance management is to guide, support, and develop each employee, providing a consistent and comprehensive experience for their staff. It is an ongoing, collaborative process between supervisor and employee that aims to establish and clarify expectations as well as set performance and development goals. Meeting and discussing performance more than once-a-year is key to driving employee development, effectiveness, and overall contribution to the library.
