COVID-19 (Coronavirus) UMBC campuses are closed, but courses are now online and employees are working remotely. WelcomeUMBC offers a range of financial aid and payment options so that all students may benefit from a UMBC education. Financial aid can come in the form of grants, work, student loans, parent loans, scholarships and other awards.NewsThe Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships staff are available to assist you remotely throughout campus closures during all regular business hours Monday through Friday between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM.Please use our contact form for general inquiries, or reach out to a specific staff member depending on the nature of your inquiry using the information found on our contact page.Important Dates for Fall 2020With the start of the Fall 2020 semester right around the corner, understanding when you will receive your bill, when your financial aid will be disbursed and when you are expected to make a payment is more important than ever. Please take note of the following dates:August 1, 2010 E-Bill issued via myUMBC emailAugust 17, 2020 First Fall 2020 financial aid disbursement (full-time students only)August 20, 2020 Fall 2020 bill due in fullAugust 25, 2020 Account becomes past due, late fee is assessedSeptember 15, 2020 Financial aid disbursements begin for part-time studentsCARES Act Emergency Grant AvailableUMBC has been provided funds through the CARES Act and is able to offer a CARES Act Emergency Grant to students who are experiencing financial difficulties due to the disruption of campus operations and the transition to online learning, as a result of COVID-19.  The emergency grant can be used to cover costs students have incurred due to the disruption of campus operations, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child care expenses.The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is identifying potentially eligible students and reaching out via email the week of 5/4/20. Eligible students will have an alert added to their myUMBC account with information and a link to the CARES Emergency Grant Request Form. Monitor your email and visit our FAQ page for more about the eligibility and awarding process.Financial Aid OffersFinancial aid offers for the 2020-2021 academic year will continue for incoming freshmen and transfer students as regularly scheduled. Your financial aid offer will come within three weeks of admission to the university or receipt of your FAFSA, whichever date is later, and will be sent to your myUMBC email account.2020-2021 aid offers for continuing students with a complete financial aid file began in late-April. As always, please monitor your myUMBC email and alerts and address any outstanding to-dos or requests for additional information as soon as possible.Who Is Your Financial Aid Counselor?UMBC students who are applying for need-based financial aid are assigned a Financial Aid Counselor who will work with them as they progress through the financial aid process. Financial Aid Counselors can help you with questions about how to apply for financial aid, what documents you need to provide to complete your application, and what to do if your financial circumstances change. Click here to find out who your Counselor is and how to contact them. Profile SharingThe Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects the privacy of student education records by limiting the disclosure of such records. Students may grant other individuals access to their account information via the Profile Sharing feature in myUMBC. It is a student’s responsibility to share their profile with anyone they would like to receive information about their financial aid and billing.  For instructions on how to provide a person access to your financial aid and billing information, please see our Profile Sharing Instructions.Remember FAFSA School Name: UMBCFAFSA School Code: 002105Financial Aid Processing:All documents received are logged and linked to your financial aid record. myUMBC Alerts will disappear within two (2) business days of receipt. Processing of financial aid documents may take up to four (4) weeks. You should expect that processing times may approach this limit during high-volume periods, such as the start of each term, add/drop, and admissions deadlines.
