This stand-up comedy download is most certainly going to be a top 3 on our 2020 top 10.Wool is a smart comic who likes to let the audience in on his dark side and foibles. The audience, however, needs to be open to what the comedian is saying. The Glasgow audience that night almost acts as a backup band to the comic.The heart of Viva Forever is stories about Glenn Wool meeting a fan and ending up moving for love and marrying. Viva Forever is also the smartest, best set-up, and most touching call-back I have ever heard. Even the most experienced stand-up comedy fan will not see it coming. He or she will also be deeply moved by it.Of the many great bits on this Glenn Wool comedy album is King of Time. Here, the comic uses the age difference between he and his youngerv wife to clean up musical history. Did you know Meat Loaf died right after Bat Out of Hell? It’s a good story.Viva Forever is just about half autobiographical stand-up comedy album. I have grown pretty sick and tired of navel-gazing comedy. Glenn Wool is no navel gazer. He has a dark view of himself and of the world in general. The second half of Viva Forever is caustic social commentary. Just my kind of comic.Hell, I think his dark closing bit about Michael Schumacher is funny and smart as hell.Viva Forever by Glenn Wooll is a superb stand-up comedy album on Stand Up! By Bil Dwyer is yet another solid comedy download album on the Stand Up! Records label. Dwyer is an entertaining stand-up comic. His material may not be groundbreaking but he makes it fresh and interesting such as the link between the homeless and banana bread. Am I Yelling is entertaining through and through.The comedy album opens with a bit on growing older andlooking like an undercover cop. Bil Dwyer makes a valid point about the scene in cop shows where the cops taste the substance to find out what it is. This is followed by material on cubicles, office rules, and how life does not always turn out the way you planned.The longest section of Bil Dwyer Am I Yelling is centered around relationships. Dwyer asks a very good question: When was the last time you respected the cherish part of your vows? It will get you thinking. The segue into Utah and numerous wives is elegant and the bit itself is very good. Also, why do we feel compelled to text our partner where we are all the time? The material is far superior to the usual fare.Other material includes a fun bit on having a garage sale, parenting, and schooling. My personal favorite on this comedy download is Birth Time where Dwyer points out how there’s always one guy who ruins it for the rest of us.The album closes with a routine that leaves the listener with a vivid mental picture of kids pretending they are pigeons for Doritos. More than a few guys who listen to this album will try it.By the way, the title of this comedy album may suggest Bil Dwyer is one of those aggressive shouting comics. This is not the case at all. Records page for more excellent stand-up comedy.There are so many good things to say about Laurel and Hardy The Definitive Restorations we needed two reviews to cover everything. The first review covered the first two discs in this four disc collection. Here, we tackle discs three and four.It bears repeating that these restorations of Laurel and Hardy shorts and features are superb. The experience really is like being at the premieres way back when.Disc 3 of Laurel and Hardy The Definitive Restorations features 8 shorts. In Helpmates (1932) Ollie asks Laurel to help him tidy up the place before his wife comes home. Laurel is unable to help without causing greater mayhem and breakage. The timing of hte sight gags in Helpmates is simply superb.The gem on disc 3 is The Music Box (1932) which won the first Academy Award for live comedy short. The simple premise is the boys have to deliver a piano. This involves going up a very steep exterior staircase. What goes up must come down more than once. Oddly enough, the piano crate sounds like it is holding church bells and not a piano.Other shorts on disc three include The Chimp (1932) where Stan and Ollie end up with a gorilla after their circus goes under. In County Hospital (1932) Hardy is in the hospital with a broken leg and Laurel seems determined to kill him. In Scram (1932) the boys are given 24 hours to leave town but not before they kindly help a drunk get home to the wrong house. This is the only short in Laurel and Hardy The Definitive Restorations that shows its age as some sequences are more grey and white than crisp black and white.Also on disc 3 are Their First Mistake (1932). Here Mrs. Hardy finds Ollie spends too much time with Laurel. Hardy tries to make up by adopting a baby but the boys end up being on their own with the baby. The Midnight Patrol (1933) was not my favorite. Stan and Ollie are cops and they try to capture a burglar. Busy Bodies (1933) features the boys working in a saw mill (the Roach Studio backlot) and show their talent for destruction.Disc 4 includes the 1937 feature Way Out West, a 65 minute feature. Laurel and Hardy have to deliver the deed to a goldmine to a young, destitute heiress. The bar owner and his female accomplice stand in their way. Way Out West is very entertaining.Shorts on disc 4 of Laurel and Hardy The Definitive Restorations include Towed in a Hole (1932) where fishmongers Stan and Ollie decide becoming owners of a fishing boat will make them more money. That is if they can repare the wreck they bought. This is the only short where only Laurel and Hardy appear. Twice Two (1933) was considered by the comedy duo as their weakest effort. It involves an anniversary party for the Laurels and Hardys. The scene where Stan goes to buy fifteen cents of ice cream is, however, brilliant.The Definitive Restorations close with That’s That which is a blooper reel made in 1937 for Laurel’s birthday. It is okay. The Tree in a Test Tube is a PSA from the forestry service about the importance of wood. The first four minutes feature the only real colour footage of Laurel and Hardy.There are commentary tracks for everything. Commentators are Randy Skretvedt and Richard W. Bann. I prefer Skretvedt’s commentaries. He is more natural and comes across and a convivial hard core fan with lots of fun facts to share.Laurel and Hardy The Definitive Restorations are a must for comedy and classic film fans. The restorations are truly superb.If you are a silent or classic film fan, I cannot but also recommend Accidentally Preserved, collections of restored shorts with new music by composer Ben Model.Laurel and Hardy The Definitive Restorations 4 Blu-ray set from Kit Parker Films and MVD is an absolute must for comedy fans, film buffs, and, of course, afficionados of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. This is such a spectacular and important release we have decided to dedicate 2 reviews for it. This review focuses on discs 1 and 2 of Laurel and Hardy The Definitive Restorations.First. The restorations are brilliant. Aside from a thirty-some second moment in on of the shorts the films are as crisp as they would have been at their premieres.Disc 1 features the 1933 Laurel and Hardy classic Sons of the Desert (after which the Laurel and Hardy fan club is named). Here, the boys finagle their way out of promises made to their wives so they can go to their big lodge party. There are a lot of gags packed in one hour and many became comedy classics. There are at least two episodes of The Flintstones inspired by this.The shorts on this disc are The Battle of the Century (1927) and Berth Marks (1929). Battle of the Century has Ollie buying an accident insurance and he and Laurel try to cash in on it. This short features a very long (if a little incomplete according to the commentary track) and elaborate pie fight and probably the best banana peel gag ever filmed. Berth Marks has Stan and Ollie sharing a berth on a train. The amount of visual jokes in this 19 minute comedy classic is astounding. This short comes with two soundtracks. One from the 1932 re-release and one from the 1936 re-release.Disc 2 of Laurel Hardy The Definitive Restorations contains 5 Stan and Ollie shorts. The best is Brats (1930) where Laurel and Hardy have to babysit their look-alike sons. The split screen technique used to put Ollie and Stan in the same frame as the kid versions of Ollie and Stan is flawless. The oversized furniture used to make L H appear to be kids is not always dimensionally correct but who cares. This is a hell of a funny comedy short.Other shorts on disc 2 are Hog Wild (1930), Come Clean (1931), One Good Turn (1931), and Me and My Pal (1933). Hog Wild’s premise is Hardy has to put up a radio aerial on his roof and Laurel helps as well as he often does. The gags are superb. Come Clean has the boys hiding from their wives in the attic. It’s fun stuff. One Good Turn has Laurel and Hardy hard on their luck but trying to help what they believed is a destitute old lady by selling their car.Me and My Pal is also an excellent Laurel and Hardy short. The very original premise is Ollie is supposed to get married but gets delayed by a puzzle. Everybody who goes looking for him also tries to finish the puzzle. It is amazing how much this comedy duo can do with such a minor premise.Even the commentary tracks that accompany the films and shorts are interesting. This is not often the case. I have a preference for the tracks featuring Randy Skretvedt over Richard W. Bann. I found Skretvedt more natural and convivial. Both commentators know their stuff and are interesting but Skredvedt comes across as more of a die hard fan and that makes what he says that much more interesting.The only weak point to Laurel and Hardy The Definite Restorations is I would have liked an informative booklet to accompany this 4 Blu-ray set. But this is just me being very difficult.The second review for this superb collection is here.If you are a fan of classic and silent movies, I highly recommend the Accidentally Preserved releases by composer and classic film buff Ben ModelCottage Comedy Festival 2020Pete Johansson Passive Aggressive Suicide Boy is an excellent comedy album and MP3 download. Reviewing stand-up comedy albums has been quite arduous and not much fun for about a year or so now. Everybody has a comedy download out. Everybody is doing autobiographical navel-gazing comedy that is of little interest that will only make you almost smile. Fortunately, there is the odd MP3 album that delivers. Passive Aggressive Suicide Boy is one of themPete Johansson comes across as a slightly befuddled man who manages to still have a rather sharp eye for our and society’s foibles. Passive Aggressive Suicide Boy features a while range of topics and some rather explicit adult material. That material will not really shock anyone. It’s just adult oriented such as his girlfriend’s ability to squirt or a bit about intimate grooming. Guys will listening to at the latter.This comedy album by Pete Johansson is cleverly constructed. The stand-up comic gently brings the audience from the comedy club with a story about post-show drinking to an intimate moment in his bedroom.The highlight is the title track where Pete Johannson reveals what superhero persona would be. You only wish some such superhero existed. You might even wish you were Passive Aggressive Suicide Boy.Pete Johansson can also get serious but still be very funny. His bit on going to a shrink and whether or not thinking about suicide is the same thing as being suicidal is a must.The bonus tracks, One Bear and Two Bear are not just show remnants but complete and road tested routines. They fit in well with the general tone of Pete Johansson Passive Agressive Suicide Boy.I have no reservation whatsoever in highly recommending this excellent comedy album MP3.Stand Up! Records 2020Wendy Maybury’s She’s Not From Around Here is a joy to listen to. Stand-up comedy is supposed to make you laugh but Maybury has an energy and persona that makes this Mp3 download a happy listening experience in addition to the prerequisite laugh.The highlight for me on Wendy Maybury’s comedy album is Baptists where the unitiated get the inside scoop on Southern Baptists. Did you know God answers your prayers and communicates through your aunts? Imangine what happens when I tell you Maybury has some strange aunts. This track is worth downloading on its own if you want a taste of this Mp3 download album Baptists [Explicit]Other members of Maybury’s family do not get off easy either on She’s Not From Around Here. That includes her German grandma. Her being accused of being an alcoholic causes a trip to Disneyland and results in a warranted holocaust reference. Yes, it is funny.Anybody who has worked a dead-end, mind-numbing job, all of us, will relate to Maybury’s bit on working at the Portrait Studio. I wish the bit had been longer and the comic had told more stories about that job but maybe on her next album.Maybury is not a petite person. This makes for a few bits about weight issues. I am not really a fan of those but Horizontal limit, a story about trying to fit into a wetsuit is piss yourself funny.Penis Mullet is a track you will want to downlooad so future parents can listen to it. Think of it as a gift that will keep on giving.If you think society has become paranoidly PC you will find your view reinforced with Force Choke where Maybury uses her Darth Vader powers to control her son in a supermarket.There is not a single bad bit on She’s Not From Around Here, an MP3 album by Wendy Maybury.We have reviewed more than 100 Stand-Up!
