PERC, located on a 42-acre site in Orrington, Maine, was completed in 1988 to serve the municipal solid waste (MSW) needs of communities in eastern, northern, central, and mid-coast Maine. The facility consists of two major systems: a front-end waste processing system and an electric power generation system. Over the last three decades, PERC has generated enough electricity to power thousands of Maine homes and business each year, while promoting greater recycling and reducing the volume of MSW that ends up in the landfill by nearly 90%. Along the way, we’ve generated millions of dollars for Maine communities we serve, many of whom have also have had an ownership interest in our facility. A recent top-to-bottom review by an international engineering firm had praise for our skilled workers and said that our plant is in such good shape we can operate successfully for another 20 years or more.
