In an email to employees, IDC President Crawford del Prete shared that his passing was due to a pre-existing condition and unrelated to COVID-19. Based in Framingham, Mass., Alan joined the company in mid-2005 and helped with the initial launch of IDC Health Insights. “Alan was well-regarded in the scientific and analyst community and was widely considered the expert in the life science industry,” Crawford said. “Our customers recognized the depth of his expertise. They frequently sought him out for his insights as they formulated their strategies and to speak at their events to share that knowledge with their customers. A brilliant analyst, Alan collaborated with many of his peers across IDC on the topics of the Future of Intelligence, 3D printing, and IoT among others.” “He and his wife Cheryl were avid travelers taking cruises around the world. They climbed Machu Picchu, swam with stingrays in French Polynesia, rode camels in Luxor and hiked Exit Glacier National Park in Alaska to name a few highlights from their numerous trips. They enjoyed fine dining and exotic cuisine on these trips as well as closer to home. Alan was the consummate foodie, keeping an Excel spreadsheet of his dining experiences and restaurants he looked forward to visiting.” Prior to joining IDC, Alan led applied biotechnology programs as Senior Manager at Arthur D. Little, Inc. Over his career, he was responsible for the development and commercialization of more than 30 products for a variety of industries, including many first-in-class product offerings. Group VP/Public Sector Lynne Dunbrack worked with Alan since the launch of IDC Health Insights. “I considered Alan not only a colleague but also a dear friend. He loved to travel and would encourage me to take my vacation time to travel abroad. I don’t know who was more pleased when I started regularly traveling with my alumni group, me or Alan! It has been heartwarming to receive so many emails from his colleagues and clients with thoughtful messages about how much Alan meant to them.
