Gulick, chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, has been named co-chair of the NIH’s COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines. Working with two other co-chairs, Drs. Henry Masur ‘72 and H. Clifford Lane of the NIH, the guidelines will draw on the knowledge of a panel of experts and will be updated frequently with scientific evidence and data to inform clinicians on how to best manage patients with COVID-19.  Dr. Wendy Béguelin, assistant professor of pharmacology in medicine, has won an American Society of Hematology Junior Faculty Scholar Award in Translational Research. One of the society’s longest-standing programs, the award is designed to support hematologists who have chosen a career in research. The award provides up to $150,000 over a two- to three-year period in equal quarterly payments over the award term. Dr. Elaine Barfield, assistant professor of pediatrics, has been elected a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM). Established in 1847, the academy is dedicated to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy life. Through their research, policy and program initiatives they provide they strive to address the structural and cultural barriers to good health and drive progress toward health equity. Dr. Barfield was formally inducted and celebrated at the NYAM Annual Meeting of the Fellows on November 7, 2019.
