寒風吹きぬく近江八幡駅に一人の米国人青年が降り立ちました。その名はウィリアム・メレル・ヴォーリズ 24歳。1964年（昭和39年） 83歳の生涯を終えるまで、彼は近江八幡に留まり、キリスト教伝道とその主義に基づくさまざまな事業展開を行いました。その事業は、ヴォーリズの教え子でもある吉田悦蔵や村田幸一郎たちをはじめ、彼の理念に共感した多くの人々の協力によって、建築設計会社、メンソレータム（現・近江兄弟社メンターム）で知られる製薬会社、医療福祉、教育分野へと幅広い活動となっています。彼の遺したものは、今なお多くの有形無形の文化遺産として私たちの生活の中に息づき愛されています。当ライブラリーでは、さまざまな分野におけるヴォーリズの活動や人物像、ヴォーリズと共に歩んだ人々の足跡を紹介してゆきます。近江兄弟社グループ<<< Thank you for your visit >>>
