Description:

The Earth and Space Sciences Department at the University of Washington condemns racism. We believe that Black Lives Matter. Racism has been an interwoven and insidious part of our society and our culture, and we will no longer tolerate it. Science, including the geosciences, has participated in marginalizing and discriminating against people of color throughout history. It is the responsibility of all of us to collectively educate ourselves and to do the necessary hard work to dismantle systems of oppression and to create an anti-racist and equitable community within our department and across our broader society.Early Life Was Pumping out Oxygen, but the Earth's Mantle Was Absorbing It | Universe TodayThe Great Oxidation Event took place 2.4 billion years ago.
