For nearly 60 years Belfast Operatic Company, or BOC as we are fondly known, has been staging concerts and shows mainly in Belfast, but also throughout Ireland. The In fact 2020 heralds our 60th anniversary year, and plans are well underway to celebrate this special year with some exciting and ground-breaking events. Although musical theatre has changed a lot since our first production in 1960, BOC’s ethos has remained the same, in bringing the highest quality musical entertainment to our audiences, whilst nurturing and maintaining the fun enjoyed by our members.I was first invited into the company back in 2002 when I saw for myself the enjoyment gained by bringing words and music on a musical score to life. That, together with me marrying the leading lady in that year’s production of Kiss me Kate, did it for me! Our first productions were musicals by Gilbert and Sullivan, and their importance to the Company is still evident today. Rarely will the Company perform in concert without including a section from a “G&S” classic.Over the years, however the Company has embraced newly emerging theatrical tastes, and has never been afraid to break new ground. Our many productions, which included Irish and Northern Irish Premieres, are testament to this. Notable productions over the past few years include Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Titanic the Musical, Jekyll and Hyde, Sister Act, A Christmas Carol, and Elf.If you would be interested in learning more about the company, auditioning to join us, booking one of our highly popular concert programmes or being kept informed about forthcoming productions then please contact us on the email form on the website. The Company has strong roots in light opera, which come from its origins as Ballymacarrett Operatic Society, and today BOC continues to draw on its extensive choral experience as it widens its musical horizons by embracing contemporary shows.
