Our small class sizes are essential to successfully developing the intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills that the IB Program offers.Through our highly individualized College Counseling program, involving both students and their families, Country Day Upper School students find the college or university that best matches their goals and interests—a place where they will thrive, excel, and contribute. We believe a culturally, ethnically, racially, and socioeconomically diverse community is essential to providing a rich learning environment for all children. We believe the creative, innovative, and intelligent use of technology is critically important. By blending the best elements of traditional teaching and strong student/teacher relationships with the inventive nature of digital learning, our students will be ready for the future. Our Artists in Residence program provides unique student experiences fueled by art and culture. In addition to bringing outside artists to campus to work directly with our students on special projects, Middle and Upper School students are offered opportunities to explore their talents and creative expression abroad. The Hance Family Gallery exhibits artwork from our students, faculty, alumni, and visiting artists. Every year, we host an exhibit open to the public featuring works from special artists.Four full-time, licensed, nationally certified athletic trainers manage the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries. The Country Day Fund is our top giving priority because it directly supports Country Day's greatest assets—our students and our teachers.2018-19 Impact and Giving ReportWe invite you to review the financial, admissions and giving reports for the 2018-19 school year. Drew and Dr. Rabinovich at UNC-Charlotte share their experience in the Upper School Science Outreach Program at Country Day. Sarah shares a glimpse into the Model United Nations and Paths to Peace experience at Country Day. I wanted achange from What am I going to do formyself this summer? to What can I give to others this summer? Laura 21 recalls. As a formerstudent at Collinswood LanguageAcademy, whose extended family livesin Colombia, Laura decided to put herstellar bilingual skills into action andcreate a one-week camp experience forunderserved rising first graders.Laura presented her proposal to offer a camp at Country Daycalled Aprende Jugando (Learn ThroughPlay) where Hispanic children would beexposed to English and math in a fun andactive environment. Summer learningloss is real, especially bilingual learningloss, so it s really crucial to help kidsget the structure that they need in thesummertime because reinforcementdoes not always happen at home, says Laura. After camp directors approved her proposal, Lauraworked with Collinswood s magnetprogram coordinator to create a campapplication and to brainstorm potential campers. Country Day was wonderfulbecause they offered us a bus so that theAprende Jugando campers could betransported from Collinswood to Country Day. The Lower School also donated lots of books so that each of our ninecampers could take home 10 books each. Laura formulated lesson plans thatwould help improve her campers Englishskills, and bought the snacks and thesupplies that they would need. She alsoscoured YouTube to research activities to do with kids at camp. By the end of theweek, parents and campers alike werepresenting Laura with flowers, cards, and text messages conveying their deepappreciation for a job well done.Being Latina, I want to helpthis community because I have a voice. I feellike being bilingualis a gift that allowsme to interact on adifferent level withso many differentkinds of people, andI want others in ourcommunity to havethat experience too.Founded in 1941, Country Day s long legacy of firsts among the Charlotte region s independent schools includes groundbreaking programs and progressive ideas. When the time comes to graduate, our seniors possess the skills they need to succeed in college and ultimately, in life.
