To our Murray’s friends and family,Since 2011, our mission has been to serve as a place of gathering and nourishment while fostering a strong community partnership. Our vision for what Murray’s would ultimately become has grown because our community of support has likewise expanded far beyond the Village limits. From our loyal regulars to the Murray’s wedded couples from afar, you all have supported our project, taught us so much, and nourished our souls for the past nine years. We want to say thank you for all of it.This letter comes to you during a truly remarkable period- one that is transforming so many aspects of our daily lives. Fellow service business operators we speak with share the struggles of adaptability and how important it will be to our industry’s survival moving forward. We are all scrambling to adapt to this known unknown and the decisions we make now determine whether or not our businesses can sustain themselves and emerge stronger than before. This new reality has offered us time for introspection while planning for this uncertain future. Over the past two months we looked at how Murray’s could adapt and we have doubts about our capacity to weather this storm. With a heavy heart, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close Murray’s in Tivoli. It was a tough one to make after almost a decade in business and this wasn’t the ending we hoped for. However, if there’s one thing we’ve learned since dropping out of Bard to open a coffee shop almost a decade ago, it’s that you can’t always plan life. We are proud of what we created and the special relationships we have developed since opening our doors. We wished to plant roots in the Hudson Valley and we never could have anticipated how deep and wide those roots would grow. The two of us are excited about our next endeavor as we turn the page in our partnership together. We want to take this opportunity to thank some special people. To all of our team members, past and present: there would be no Murray’s if it wasn’t for your hard work and creative contributions over the years. We have learned first hand that with the right team, anything’s possible. To our families and friends: thanks for supporting our vision, challenging our ideas, and helping us grow together.
