The movie's now the #1top earning film in Japanese history so there was absolutely no wayPok mon was goingto come anywhere close to beating it. The Number Three spot went to Romanceof the Three Kingdoms - The New Interpretation.Other new films debuting this weekend include Poupelle of Chimney Town, whichcame in at Number Four, and Josee, the Tiger and the Fish, which debuted at Number Nine. The film's actual box office earnings have not been made public yet butI'll be sure to add them once they become available. There was no post-credits teaser for Pok monMovie 24this time around so we have no idea when the next film is coming out.Based on this weekend's performance, though, it seems pretty clear that Pok mon movies will do wellno matter what time of the year they come out.Discussthis on Facebook| Twitter| BMGfPocket Monsters TheMovie "Koko" - The ReviewDecember 26th, 2020Dogasu@ 00:07 JST -- After what seems like aneternity the 23rd Pocket Monstersmovie, Pocket Monsters The Movie"Koko," has finally hit theaters. I went to see it on openingand so, as usual, I wanted to share my thoughts on this (currently)Japan-only film in my review ofthe film. The review has a lot ofspoilers in it so avoid it if you'd rather wait to watch the movieyourself before finding out what happens.Discussthis on Facebook| Twitter| BMGfPocket Monsters TheMovie "Koko" ~ One More Beginning ~ Chapter TwoDecember 24th, 2020Dogasu@ 22:32 JST -- The January 2021 issue of CoroCoro Comics, which went on saleDecember 15th, featured the second chapter of the Movie 23 prequel manga, PocketMonsters The Movie "Koko" ~ One More Beginning ~!The second chapter shows the continuing battle betweenKoko and the giant Maruyakude rampaging about in the Okoya Forest. While this manga depicts an original story, it contains several hintsabout the kinds of things we'll be seeing in the new movie that comesout tomorrow, such as the Spring of Healing and the Holy Tree. A graphic novel collection of the manga will be made availabletomorrow, December 25th. Amazon liststhe graphic novel as having 128 pages so that means the manga's thirdand final chapter's gonna clock in at around 32 pages.More information on this third chapter will be posted once I finish mycoverage of the actual film itself. Until tomorrow!Discussthis on Facebook| Twitter| BMGfPocket Monsters TheMovie "Koko" to bring up Satoshi's DadDecember 24th, 2020Dogasu@ 11:53 JST -- An Oricon news articlereleased just a few hours ago reveals that Satoshi's going to talkabout his own dad in Pocket Monsters The Movie "Koko,"which comes out in theaters tomorrow, December 25th.I don't have time to translate the full article right now but here'sthe relevant part:The source of Satoshi's ability to takeaction is his father. What's etched into the heart of a boy who's stillonly ten years old.In this movie, one part that's sure to leave an impression is when Kokostruggles with questions of both his very existence and therelationship between him and his father -- "Am I a Pok mon? Oram I a human?" When he sees Koko struggling with this, the maincharacter Satoshi reminisces about his own father, for the very firsttime, and talks about the effect his old man's had on him. Satoshi'smom has been appearing in the TV and movie series a number of timesbefore, of course, but as a fan, hearing Satoshi bring up his dadnow, at a time like this, was a huge shock. Director Yajima says: "Theevents in this movie take place after Zarude has been raising the babyKoko for ten years. They meet Satoshi and Pikachu in the jungle wherethey live, and little by little seeds of doubt begin to bud withinKoko, who up until now had never questioned the idea that he himself isa Pok mon. And we show him questioning his own existence and therelationship between him and his father when he asks "Dada, am I ahewmann?""During all that, having Satoshi go "When I see [Koko and the others],I'm reminded of my own papa," and then having him go on to talk abouthis own father is something we've never done in the Pok monseries up until now. But when he sees Koko question the relationshipwith Zarude, his father, we thought it'd be unnatural for him to not bring up his own dad. Satoshihas never really talked about his father up until now, but since wehave a story with a "parent and son" theme we had a perfect excuse tobring it up and so when Satoshi sees Zarude, the father, and Koko, theson, we had to come up with what kind of memories Satoshi'd have abouthis own father. He can say this about Koko as well, but since theparent who raised him is still around that means is existence andactions must have some kind of meaning. Also, Satoshi is the kind ofboy who doesn't look down on people and can make friends with justabout anybody and so he connects to his friend Koko by talking notabout his mother, but about his own father. We all know Satoshi, and how he never gives up, and how he's anenergetic boy who has a positive outlook on life. We thought by makinghis father's words be what make that Satoshi the way he is it'd makehis actions make sense and would make for a great fit for this "parentand child story" that's the central theme of this year's film. Satoshiis working to become a Pok mon Master, and we feel that weshould have the reasons he does the things he does come from hisfamily. That's because Satoshi is still a ten-year-old boy who needsthe love of his parents, after all. By talking about his father for thefirst time, we'll understand that his personality and the things hedoes come from his father.I personally wouldn't get my hopes up too much -- I'mbetting there will be like two, three lines of dialogue, tops -- butit's still interesting how they're even going there in the first place.I will of course provide as much information about this part of themovie as I can when I go see it in a little less than 24 hours from now.Special thanks to Twitter user Frandango for the tip!Discussthis on Facebook| Twitter| BMGfPocket Monsters TheMovie "Koko" Supporters' Podcast - Episode 08December 15th, 2020Dogasu@ 13:54 JST -- My write-up for Episode 08of Pocket Monsters The Movie "Koko"podcast is...well, it's not here because the episode's release hasbeen postponed until further notice! This week's episode features the one and only Ms.Rica Matsumoto! The episode doesn't go into as much detail as the last two did (it'salmost ten minutes shorter, for starters) but it's still a charminglook at one of the people who's become the face of the animated seriesover the years. Ms. Matsumoto talks about her past working in radio, what kind of character she wants Satoshi to be, and how she's oftenrecognized on the street because her actual voice is so similar to herSatoshi voice. Check it out!It seems like maybe this Friday's episode may be the last episode ofthe podcast, maybe? They haven't announced anything beyond Episode 08and the movie's release is only a few weeks away so I think we mightonly get one more of these things. The interview also includes a conversationwith Ms. Sachiko Kobayashi, the voice of Voyager and the singer of themovie's ending theme Kaze to Issho ni,that talks about what it was like for her to play Voyager again afterall these years and what it's like sharing the stage with ShokoNakagawa. The magazine also has an interview with Daiki Tomiyasu, the director ofthe Sun Moon TV series, but that translation will have to come another day.Discussthis on Facebook| Twitter| BMGfPocket Monsters TheMovie "Koko" Supporters' Podcast - Episode 05November 19th, 2020Dogasu@ 12:39 JST -- The fifth episode of the Pocket Monsters The Movie "Koko"podcast came out November 13th so I've written up a summary thatyou can read here. This (well, last) week's guests are Mr. Mima Masafumi, the sounddirector for all things Pok mon,and the composer of the film's music, Mr. Shinji Miyazaki. Thisepisode, which is Part One of a two-part conversation, goes into thebackgrounds of guests, discusses how Mr. Mima's job is very much likebeing an "interpreter," and how working on the TV series and the moviesare different. It's also, officially, the first time we've gotten confirmation thatMr. Shinji Miyazaki will be composing the instrumental music for thisyear's film! Up until just this past weekend the official website onlylisted Okazaki Physical Education under the film's "Music" credit butat the same time the fact that Mr. Miyazaki was coming back has been telegraphedpretty hard over the past few months.Part Two of the podcast, which also features Mr. Mima and Mr. Miyazaki, comes out tomorrow, November 20th.Discussthis on Facebook| Twitter| BMGfPok mon WorldAtlas UpdateNovember 17th, 2020Dogasu@ 21:11 JST -- Today's non-Koko update is something I've beenmeaning to do for years and yearsat this point; dust off the old Pok monWorld Atlas section and finally give it a much-needed overhaul!timestamp on the old HTML file it looks like Ihadn't updated the Pok mon World Atlas page since around 2012 orso, though Ifeel like it's probably been even longer than that. Part of thatis just me prioritizing other sections of the site while another partof thatwas me trying to figure out just what I wanted that section to be.What I ended up on was a page that functions not unlike my List of Pok mon pages. Oneach page I provide the Japanese name, a breakdown of that name, andthe name used in the English localizations for each location I couldthink of. I've also included information, where applicable, about anyplaces in the real world that the Pok mon world location mayhave been modeled after. With very few exceptions we don't really haveofficial confirmation on the models for each town so what you seelisted is mostly just educated guesses. Today is only the first step toward a total revamp of that portion ofwebsite. At the moment I only have two regions done - Kanto and Galar- with the rest coming at a later date. The plan is to add Johtothrough Alola, as well as non-main series regions like the OrangeIslands and the Orre Region, little by little as time goes on. So Ihope those parents who are watching this show with their own childrenare the ones who get the most excited, and I hope I can be a part ofthat."Mewtwo, Masachika IchimuraMr. Ichimura was - andI hope this goes without saying - the voice of Mewtwo in 1998's PocketMonsters The Movie "Mewtwo Strikes Back!", 2000's Mewtwo Lives TV Special, and2019's Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, the latter of which is actually available with a Japanese audio optionon Netflix in North America. It's basically everything I can do short of justposting the full manga outright! The Nintendo All-Stars Free-For-All!Smash Brothers is a gag manga from a kids' magazine so don't expectepic battles or deep lore or anything like that; it's just a fun littlestory for kids, nothing more, nothing less. Still, it's kind of neat tosee things like Mario ordering Pikachu around in battle or Samus Aranwith a construction hat on, and the art's kind of cute, so definitelytake a look!As far as I can tell this is the only website on all the Internet -Japanese, English, or otherwise - to ever post anything about thismanga so this is 100% for sure something you've never seen before.Enjoy!Discussthis on Facebook| Twitter| BMGf
