ABOUT US The Coronation Training Centre has over the years established itself as a haven for differently abled learners. We provide specialized education and support to learners with barriers to learning and development, their families, and actively advocate their rights.ServicesAt Coronation Training Centre child development is not just the core of what we do but the core of how we live.We believe that in order for child development to take place successfully the necessary child support services need to be present.We as the Governing Body and Executive Committee, management and staff of the Coronation Training Centre, pledge ourselves, and our total resources, to develop the capacity of our learners and to assist them in reaching their fullest potential in society. While we recognize the disadvantages of background and circumstances of many of our learners, we also accept the critical role that we must play in improving the quality of life of our learners. We acknowledge the central role played by parents in the development Centre in the interests of all our learners and our community. We trust that the forward movement of our Centre is reflected in these objectives.I’ve been working for the rights of persons with disabilities for the past 30 years and have experienced that all children can learn and need support. This is also articulated in White Paper 6: Special Needs Education – Building an Inclusive Education and Training System (approved by Cabinet in 2001). My passion to respond to those learners who are vulnerable and most likely to be marginalised and excluded, keeps me committed to one of the key strategies of the above policy that aims to accommodate learners who have high intensity support needs, as well as provide a range of support services to ordinary and full-service schools.This inspires me to go beyond the call of duty. It is however for me essential that the implementation of the White Paper 6, be done in a responsible manner not to counteract the very ideals it stands for. To this end I also hope that the Education System will move into the direction of a total breakdown of all social barriers and an eradication of the stigma learners with barriers to learning and development have to deal with. I have a dream that no child will be begging on street corners or in shopping malls – blaming it on their disability. I dream that all learners with barriers to learning and development will be accommodated in a Centre or school where they will learn a skill and find job opportunities using their competency. Furthermore, to ensure that learners, staff and parents understand that rights are underpinned by responsibilities.Resist all forms of social and economic discrimination and prejudice against our learners, particularly when it limits their rights to quality of life and access to employment. In addition, to support all efforts to remove any obstacle this can contribute to the alienation and suffering of our learners.Forge co-operation and networking relations with community based organizations, civil society groups, public and private sector organizations, to further the interests of our learners.To improve our existing resources as well as acquiring additional means to achieve our stated objectives.Coronation Training Centre has afull time professional nurse with 35 years of experience.Medical Assessment and referral to the appropriate outside agencies.Daily Medication given as per prescriptionCounselingNutritional interventionHealth educationChild abuse and neglect from homeDetection of substance abuse support and referralBasic first aid assistance, fire drill evacuation an learn not to burn and prevent accidents.The Occupational TherapyDepartment is run by 2 specialized professionals with years of extensiveknowledge on the various intervention strategies with school-aged children.broad spectrum of impairments, which are managed therapeutically includeslearners with cerebral palsy, autism, learning impairments psychologicalproblems, visual and hearing problems, down syndrome, etc.Providinga holistic therapy programme, which is tailor-made to the individual needs ofeach and every learner, our intervention programmes include:Perceptual-motorSensoryVocational Training and PlacementPersonal ManagementSpeech therapy and AAC programmes in conjunction with a speech therapist and audiologist.
