Message from NACWA about COVID-19/CoronavirusNACWA is committed to ensuring the health and safety of its members and staff. Given recent developments and efforts to control the spread of COVID-19, all NACWA staff are now teleworking. Staff remain reachable by all regular means and will be working to continue normal operations. The Association has cancelled its in-person meetings and conferences through the end of July, but is planning online events to provide members with valuable information and engagement opportunities. The City of Garland, Texas continually seeks positive ways to make their mark on the community. To improve communication with the Significant Industrial Users (SIUs) located within the city’s service area, the City of Garland Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) implemented a quarterly electronic newsletter and an annual training opportunity. The newsletter provides regulatory updates and requirements, reminders, and notices of upcoming events. The goal is to inform and educate the SIUs to improve and maintain compliance with pretreatment regulations. NACWA submitted comments last week on EPA Region 1’s proposed permit modifications for small municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s) in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. NACWA also submitted comments to EPA on its proposed regulatory determination—the first step of potentially regulating PFAS for drinking water systems under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). Since the House’s passage of the Heroes Act last month , Congressional action on further COVID-19 stimulus relief has remained at a standstill as Senate Leadership continues to take a wait and see approach before proceeding on any related legislation while the U.S. economy slowly reopens.
