Doc's Guitar is dedicated to the guitar and music of Doc Watson. A master at both flatpicking and fingerstyle guitar, Doc's skills are legendary. Doc Watson had a profound influence in traditional, folk and bluegrass music ever since coming to national attention in the early 1960's. His recordings and performances have inspired generations of aspiring guitarists to explore the mysteries of his phenomenal playing.
Here at Doc's Guitar you will find biographical information about Doc, along with a listing of the honors and awards he has received. We also feature a complete discography of Doc's recordings, as well as a listing of instruction books, instruction videos and performance videos. You'll also find our song search page that allows you to look up a tune and see a where you and find that tune in Doc's recordings, instruction books and videos. A Tribute Album from France
Here's to You, Mr. Watson
A guitar duo from France recently wrote us about an project they recorded to honor the music of Doc Watson. Mathis Haug and Benoit Nogaret wanted to bring Doc's music to the other side of the Atlantic where it is not as well known. Their album demonstrates the widespread and lasting influence of Doc Watson. Click on the link to watch them perform songs from the album.

Songs Doc Didn't Sing
This album features 15 instrumental gems from Doc and Merle's Flying Fish Records period in the 1980's. It is the first album released by FLi Records, a new record label from Folklore Productions, Doc's long-time agents. Doc and Merle are joined by a host of stellar musicians in these tracks, and their musicianship really shines.

This is a tab of the lead break of the title track that Doc plays on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album Will The Circle Be Unbroken. These breaks are woven in between the vocals. When the band says Come in Doc Watson Doc proceeds with an energetic lead break that is a tour de force of his picking skills.
