Carla shares her lived experience as the mother of a special needs child to provide insight into how trauma impacts brain and physical development. Her expertise helps administrators, educators, caregivers and others better understand why learning and interactions may be different for someone who experienced extensive trauma.

With over 10 years of first hand experience and continuous training, Carla is that compassionate companion who helps people become trauma informed. It takes just one loving advocate to change the trajectory of a child’s life. Instead of tolerating, we move through awareness and acceptance to advocacy.

The pandemic, racial and social injustice, family dynamics are just a few examples of stressors that have impacted our children over the last few years.

The 4-Step Method

After fighting for custody of her son for many years, Carla got custody and adopted her son. She was depleted in every way – emotionally, financially, spiritually, mentally and physically. She was over $100k in debt, 40 lbs overweight and pre-diabetic, as well as isolated and feeling misunderstood and desperate.

She developed her 4-step method for self care, which is our right and responsibility to ourselves. Carla is living proof that taking care of self can help move mountains for our loved ones. Attendees will leave the session with an action plan for taking the BEST care of oneself.
