Since 2011, the Center for Health Equity (CHE) seeks to understand and ultimately eliminate health inequities in under resourced, vulnerable, and underserved communities and populations, particularly those in Western Pennsylvania. CHE addresses issues attributed to institutional racism, builds strategic partnerships across sectors and communities, acknowledges a social equity in all policies perspective, and the public sector's role in achieving health equity for its' citizenry.  There are many exciting events, initiatives, and projects that are taking place in the Center for Health Equity right now. We kicked off the year with the symposium 400 Years of Inequality: Achieving Redemption and Equity Today. Do 400 years of inequality provide a historical explanation for the racial inequities in health, well-being, and social development of African Americans today? Become an abolitionist for social equity and a strategic partner with the Center for Health Equity. Share the passion, commitment, and responsibility for advancing just health and equity for all. Our commitment to social and health equity means that we are also committed to making sure our students have access to academic practice experiences to assist in creating opportunities of what a just society will bring.  The Center for Health Equity focuses on excess premature mortality (deaths before age 65) in populations experiencing health inequities with four major aims: To gain a further understanding of the causes of health inequities with a focus on Western Pennsylvania and, more specifically, Allegheny County To develop, implement, and evaluate interventions designed to reduce those inequities To provide capacity-building services to community organizations in our region To disseminate findings and experiences through the CHE website, conferences, and peer-reviewed publications. We re working towards an equity-oriented response to the pandemic.
