Description:

The mission of the NCCC is to increase the capacity of health care and mental health care programs to design, implement, and evaluate culturally and linguistically competent service delivery systems to address growing diversity, persistent disparities, and to promote health and mental health equity. Our Commitment to Racial JusticeThe Georgetown University National Center for Cultural Competence (NCCC) joins all who have denounced the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor. These events represent the most egregious examples of injustice that have befallen multiple racial and ethnic groups in this country’s history ─ founded by conquest of nations of Indigenous people and enriched through the labor of enslaved African people. NCCC condemns all forms of racism and their manifestations. The multiracial and multigenerational outpouring of support for racial justice and systemic change in this country, and across the globe, signals a glimmer of hope for meaningful change. However, meaningful change requires that each person regardless of race or ethnicity examine their own internalized racism, their role in interpersonal racism, and the degree to which they sustain or disrupt systemic racism. Those who seek change must make the choice to change. The mission of the NCCC is to increase the capacity of health care and mental health care programs to design, implement, and evaluate culturally and linguistically competent service delivery systems to address growing diversity, persistent disparities, and to promote health and mental health equity. Fighting racism and other forms of social injustice is a component of the work of cultural and linguistic competence ─ unarguably cultural and linguistic competence helps to disrupt racism. NCCC will continue to promote and advance racial justice. We welcome collaboration with others who wish to confront this pernicious dilemma that has plagued this nation from its inception.
