LOOK- 2021 IS ON ITS WAY "To them that look for Him" Hebrews 9:28 Rev. Edward Proffitt, Th.D.The memories of old2020 year were good for some and not for others. I told someone after analyzing the year, I classified it with a title "THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY". Regardless weather good or bad, we can harvest it away into our memories. There is a saying, "The older you get the faster the years go by. My age (84), tells me that is true, and 2020 has passed like a vapor.As you review 2020, is there a feeling of discontent, a grudging belief that the year could havebeen better, more satisfactory? I am not talking about sickness, unemploymentor tragedy that might have intervened into your life. It is something beyond that, something you just cannot figure out.You wish you could for you do not want to go throughit over again in the NEW YEAR.There was a lady somewhat like that named Martha. She was a successful, enterprising lady. Martha owned a villa on the back slopes of the Mount of Olives. She had possessions, friends and respect; but something was not right and it took an encounter with Jesus Christ for her to discover that the problem was her attitude. She always hurried as a result of her inner state of care. She looked peacefulenoughbut inside her spirit was agitation and unrest.Luke's gospel tells us how she made this discovery, "Now it came to pass...that Jesus entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received Him into her house. She had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus feet, and heard His word, But Martha was cumbered about much servingand came to Him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha thou art careful and troubled about many things; but one thing is needful; and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken from her" (Luke 10:38-41).Martha's problem began with her attitude. I doubt if she even realized the resentmentboiling inside her until the very day it erupted in front of Jesus Christ and her sister. Martha had grown wear in serving; We must guard against growing weary in serving and the only way to do so is devotion with service. Serving without devotion will make us old before our time. Effective service is dependent upon effectivedevotion. Without it, I will growfrustratedand tense.That is my goal in the NEW YEAR "Devotion With Service", setting at Jesus' feet listening for that stillsmall voice that calls out of the bustleof the world. If I will,thereis the assurance thatall else will be alright. Will you thinkabout doing the same? If you will, it will bea HAPPY AND JOYFUL NEW YEAR.
