Ex LMS Inspection Saloon, M45020, finally made it into public service on the last Steam Day of 2016, on the 25th September, and very popular it proved to be too.The former LMS Inspection Saloon seen in action on 25th Sept 2016. Gordon Thomson. The 16 ton mineral wagon has been receiving work intermittently over the past two years or so, and is now substantially complete. Only some minor detail work requires to be finished off, and then it will be ready for its repaint. Volunteers ?This 16 Ton Mineral Waggon has been substantially rebuilt by Group member John Paterson. Photo Gordon ThomsonThe 12 Ton Box Van, B778493 (also referred to as Alex s Van), has recently been needle gunned and the bare metal primed, helping to move the restoration of this vehicle along quite nicely.Other restoration work has continued, and, as usual, we could so much more if only we had more volunteers. You do not require to be particularly qualified to carry out much of this kind of work, just bags of enthusiasm.Currently, ARPG has working members on site at Dunaskin on Saturdays and Tuesdays. Anyone wishing to help out with any of the work shown above need only contact the Group telephone Archie Thom, on 01292 269 260 (re Saturday Workdays) telephone Andy Arnot, on 01292 443 652 (re Tuesday Workdays)or by email to info@scottishindustrialrailwaycentre.org.uk Posted in News by Norman. Comments Off on The Restoration Work Continues Phew, what a day we had on Sunday 25th September 2016. Two locomotives in steam, both of whom performed admirably, and a first public outing for our former LMS Inspection Saloon. Ayr Burners Cycling were also present, and set up their stall and basic skills track on a part of our site, enabling the wee ones to have a go on their balance bikes. And a great day was had by all. What was probably the busiest day of the season, and the weather was kind to us, even if we did experience a little drizzle later in the day. The car park was full to capacity for most of the day, with one car out, and another waiting to get in. And so it went on, all day.Dunaskin platform was crowded with visitors eager to try out our new coach (actually built during World War 2), and view the Fireless in steam, alongside our faithful No. 10.Some visitors had traveled hundreds of miles just to view the Fireless, but most were from somewhat nearer to home. And everyone left with a smile on their face, saying we ll be back next year !A busy car park at Dunaskin 25 Sep 2016. Pic by Frank BeattieEveryone is eager to try out the new Saloon.
