Nice to meet you. We founded Sano because we believe that contributing to research should be engaging, supportive and meaningful for participants. Having experienced both sides of medical research - as research participants and researchers - we felt there was huge potential to improve the process and make participating in research rewarding and easy to do. We met working on our PhDs at the University of Cambridge, and our team brings in years of expertise in medical research, genetics and security-led software engineering. We explain scientific concepts and new research projects in language that is clear and easy to understand. We don’t shy away from communicating challenging concepts and we pride ourselves on making them accessible.
We started Sano because we believe you shouldn’t have to choose between data privacy and access to cutting edge research. We don't believe in business models that ask you to give away your data to use their products. Your data belongs to you. No one will ever see it without your permission. We will use the information you share with us to notify you of research opportunities that may be relevant for you, but it's entirely up to you to decide if you want to take part and your data will never be shared without your permission. We use industry standard encryption mechanisms both in transit and at rest when dealing with your data. This means that your data is always safe and secure. Any information sent between your computer and our servers is encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) - you can always check that the padlock icon in your internet browser is present to ensure you are interacting with our site, and not a site trying to impersonate us.
While some research has decades of support and in-depth study, other findings may be comparatively new. We provide detailed information and references about the status of the science underlying our Sano Personal DNA Reports and the information on our website.
