Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), and Paramedic courses are available throughout the year. In addition, refresher courses are offered for all of the EMS disciplines. Paramedics are trained in advanced cardiac life support, neonatal resuscitation, pediatric advanced life support and trauma life support. They have a vast knowledge of medications, cardiac interpretations and anatomy. Paramedics also have advanced skill sets allowing them to perform in-the-field lifesaving procedures. Becoming an EMT is the building block of an EMS career. As an EMT you learn how to control and manage bleeding, shock, pregnancy complications, minor to moderate burns, CPR, trauma, and allergic reactions. You will also learn basic medication administration, assessments and vehicle operations. AEMT competencies include the recognition, assessment, and management of medical and trauma emergencies and provides prehospital emergency care to acutely ill or injured patients. AEMTs have expanded knowledge on anatomy, physiology, skills, and medication administration from the EMT level. REMSA offers classes to meet the needs of the lay rescuer and the advanced clinician. Community members can take basic CPR and First Aid courses designed to prepare them to recognize and respond to an emergency and provide care that can save a life. Students will learn how to manage life-threatening blood loss through the use of tourniquet application, wound packing, and use of hemostatic dressings. Sign Up for Class This course teaches one-rescuer CPR, Automated External Defibrillator use, and relief of choking in adults, children, and infants. The use of barrier devices for all ages will also be covered. Sign Up for Class This course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until a professional help arrives. Course content includes Rescuer Safety, Recognition of Emergencies, General Principles, Medical Emergencies, and Injury Emergencies. Sign Up for Class The Kid Care Babysitting Class is designed to teach adolescents the basics of caring for young children. Techniques for setting up babysitting opportunities, diaper changes, bottle-feeding, ABC s of safe sleep, playtime activities, and taking charge of situations while babysitting is covered. Sign Up for Class For healthcare providers, REMSA offers full and recertification courses in both BLS and advanced provider domains. Experienced medical providers can continue their education in courses offered by the AHA, NAEMT, as well as ITLS. This course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia arrest.
