The club was proud to announce that he was the first esports scholarship winner in the school s history. By the end of the school year, Carlson marked another notch in his belt. ByteSpeed Computers in conjunction with Gravity Gaming offered a scholarship contest to high school and college students. The students were asked to submit an essay expressing how their lives were effected by being a member of a school esports team.Esports coordinator had spoken with the respresentatives from ByteSpeed who were very impressed and moved reading the submitted essays. There were over 150 entries submitted. Dallas made it into the top 15 runners up. The top six students received a gaming laptop. With the quaility of the essays that were submitted, it was decided to add a package for the other runner up submissions. Dallas was one of these students. Below you will find the tweet that was put out about the scholarship winners.Dallas was an active member of the FHS Esports Club playing HearthStone, Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Killer Queen Black. He also was more than happy to share his knowledge of the titles and the game play with his fellow students as was all mentoring his coaches. In the fall, Dallas plans to attend UNI and is currently looking into participation with their esports team on campus.read moreCongratulations to FHS Esports Club member Nicole SutherlandThe FHS Esports Club continues to grow and make a name for themselves. This winter, club member Dallas Carlson entered a Beyond the Game Challange through NASEF. NASEF is the national esports federation that our local club belongs to. Throughout the year they will offer challenges that students can volunteer for and be judged. Each winner, as selected by a panel of judges, wins a $500 scholarship, 15 minutes with an esports professional and then usually an additional prize that is specific to their challenge. Most recently, the FHS Esports Club was notified by its second challenge winner. In the spring, Nicole Sutherland decided to submit a piece of original fan art as an entry in this particular challenge.Sophomore Nicole SutherlandThe challenge is listed below: Creating fan art requires you to build on the existing lore, characters, and worlds that exist within the esports realm. Character concept artists and costume designers help bring characters and creatures to life. They draw inspiration from as little as a napkin sketch or as much as a full-blown narrative concept and generate ideas and craft designs that are compelling and iconic. Respectful digital citizens honor the intellectual property of others and give credit where credit is due.ChallengeCreate digital fan art inspired by your favorite game! Besides the scholarship and 15 minutes with an esports professional, Nicole also was awarded a set of Copic Markers to continue working on creating more fan art.Congratulations to Nicole on your scholarship....keep up the good work.Nicole also actively participates with the Super Smash Bros Ultimate team for the district.read moreCongratulations to FHS Esports SeniorsCongratulations to the FHS Esports Senior Class. He truly embodies and lives by the values and missions that Fairfield Community School district strives for.John has supported many teachers with meeting their science standards by bringing agriculture to the classroom. He not only brings the supplies, but also teaches valuable lessons that meet the teaching standards. Students have made pumpkin pie in a bag, planted a garden in a glove, made mini greenhouses, and many other fun and meaningful activities.Last fall John spearheaded Fairfield s Chamber of Commerce first annual teacher appreciation event. This event was such a great success, and teachers truly felt appreciated. John has made a name for himself as being a generous leader. This year he did Ag in the Classroom with all the kindergarten classes. Kids loved it! He, and Farm Bureau, sponsored an indoor recess center. It had games, books, and an awesome teacher cabinet. Most recently when a call came to track down bags to help teachers pack student s supplies John answered the call. It is no surprise that in less than 24 hours, over 1,200 bags were acquired from different businesses in our community. That s how John Sandbothe does business! John s ability to bring the community and school together is evidence to how much he truly cares about the students and staff of Fairfield Community School District.Thank you, John Sandbothe, for your selfless dedication to the students and staff of FCSD. It is a pleasure for Fairfield Community Education Association (FCEA) to award John Sandbothe the 2020 Friend of Education Award. He loads and hauls totes between storage and schools on a regular basis. Mark writes grants for COB and has been instrumental in finding the funding that is necessary to keep the program running.
