BHS Jazz News and EventsCollins plays for justiceBerkeley High Jazz senior Camille Collins is featured in the Oaklandside article Jamming for a cause at Lake Merritt with Ben Esposito, Camille Collins, and friends by jazz writer Andrew Gilbert. Collins played her tenor sax alongside drummer Ben Esposito and other musicians who gathered at Lake Merritt last weekend. The musicians raised and donated funds to the Black Organizing Project. Suhn, a sophomore at BHS, wrote, produced, and plays all parts on the jazz tune. Find it on Spotify, Apple Music, or Youtube or just search Dexter Suhn Blurry and you ll find it! Congratulations, Dexter, on the piece!Audition results: 2020-2021The audition results and band placements for the 2020-21 school year are now available. I know as you look at these lists, some of you will be overjoyed, and others will bedisappointed, said Band Director Sarah Cline.  There were so many great players in this year’s auditions, we easily could have filled up 6 classes. We could not do it without you. Find a complete donor list here.__________________________________________________Spotlight: Band Director Sarah ClineSarah Cline is in her tenth year as Jazz Director at Berkeley High School, a premier jazz program known nationally and internationally as an incubator of talent and a citadel of swing. Her students regularly represent at high level festivals, and get into top flight college music programs.  During her time at Berkeley High, she has led four tours to Cuba, collaborating with La Escuela Nacional de la Musica in Havana. Sarah is the founder of JazzGirls Day, an event that now is spreading to communities across the US that encourages young women to see a place for themselves in the world of jazz. In addition to her teaching duties, Sarah is an in-demand professional trombonist in the San Francisco Bay Area in both jazz and salsa bands.  She has presented at the American Educational Research Association Conference, the Jazz Education Network Conference, and the California All-State Music Education Conference.
