Welcome DreadnaughtsWelcome to another season of storied Lakeland Football! 2018 did not disappoint the Dreadnaught faithful as our boys notched their 7th FHSAA state title with a dominating win over St. Thomas Aquinas 33-20. The team also performed in the classroom with 31 players recording a GPA of 3.0 or higher!As we look forward with great anticipation to 2019 we also look back and remember those teams that have gone before us. 20 years ago our Dreadnaught football team traveled to Gainesville and prevailed 45-12 over the Rutherford Rams in the 1999 5A State Championship Game!With star quarterback Johnnie Jones out with a broken ankle, Junior Kedrick Frazier was enlisted to step up and play in his first starting role as a Dreadnaught. Down 6-0 early in the first quarter, Robbie Wright kicked a field goal to get Lakeland on the board. On the next series Frazier handed off the ball to wide receiver Josh Smith who then threw a 35 yard touchdown pass to Javari Sanders. The Dreadnaught backfield was prolific with standouts Laroni Gallishaw and Johnny Mack scoring and leading the ground attack. Mack finished the game with over 100 yards and ended up with over 1,500 yards on the season. The defense was stingy with solid play from Issac Jackson, Donte Galloway, Mandrell Butler, Kareem Taylor, Josh Phillips, Tom Gunther, Johnny Jean, Antwon Denson and Shon Fuller. Josh Phillips sacked Rutherford’s quarterback in the end zone forcing a fumble and Chauncey Clark, who led the Naughts with 14 tackles, recovered the ball for the Dreadnaught touchdown. Coach Castle assembled an amazing coaching staff in 1999 including Fred Lopez, Skip Richey, Bob Leitner, Ralph Galloway, Shannon Arnett, Tom Short and Clay Taylor. The 1999 team was truly a team for the decades and will forever live in Dreadnaught history!A special thank you to our Century Club Members and generous corporate sponsors for all their support of Dreadnaught football-we could not do it without you!
