Description:

We are eager to have you return to the facility starting June 18, per Georgia Tech s research ramp-up plan. However, there are a few items you will have to complete before your work can commence. We have implemented several new protocols and measures to maintain a safe and productive working environment for our researchers and staff. We encourage you to begin to address these items sooner rather than later.Watch the Returning Safely to Your Lab videos. The six-part module will include what you can expect, recommended safety precautions, cleaning and disinfection best practices, and proper use and disposal of PPE, among other helpful tips for best ensuring your safety and the safety of others. You may access this training on the OSP site: https://training.osp.gatech.edu/.Read through the guidelines displayed on theIEN Re-Opening Plans and Procedures page.Study the infographics and revised layout of theInorganic,Pettit, andBio-Cleanroomslocated on the above page.Take the laboratory protocolonline testto gain access to the cleanrooms.Note:All returning internal and external researchers, even those who have been approved for research resumption, must complete these requirements. The following links can be used as references for more information onGeorgia Tech s research ramp-up planand theEH S COVID-19 Training. Events Calendar and Registration Link The Southeastern Nanotechnology Infrastructure Corridor (SENIC) housed at the Institute for Electronics and Nanotechnology at Georgia Tech is hosting a series of online technical seminars on Thursdays during the month of July, from 11am - 12pm, open to the academic and industrial community with an interest in cleanroom fabrication and processing for materials, biological, and electronics research. This weekly webinar will feature talks by SENIC Ambassadors. SENIC Ambassadors are faculty members from different academic institutions who support SENIC user programs and interests on their individual campuses. They are also active users of SENIC facilities. This series will cover presentations on their current research topics.Click here to access the calendar and registration link. SENIC Ambassadors Webinar Series: Heat Transfer Across Length Scales – Focus on Thermal Management and Advanced Sensing New materials, advanced sensing, and developing a more robust understanding of thermal energy transport across length scales is presented, with emphasis on research areas which leverage industry-relevant materials science and microfabrication. Vince Calhoun has been chosen as the recipient of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) Technical Achievement Award. An unexpected property of nanometer-scale antimony crystals — the spontaneous formation of hollow structures — could help give the next generation of lithium ion batteries higher energy density without reducing battery lifetime. The reversibly hollowing structures could allow lithium ion batteries to hold more energy and therefore provide more power between charges. ECE Ph.D. candidate Mohammad Taghinejad has been awarded a 2020 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, for his potential contributions to the field of optics, photonics or related field.  James D. Meindl, our treasured friend and colleague in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), passed away peacefully on June 7, 2020 at his home in Greensboro, Georgia after a long illness.IEN is home to one of the sixteen sites of theNational Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI). The NNCI was initiated by theNational Science Foundation (NSF)in 2015 to provide researchers from academia, industry, and government access to university user facilities with leading-edge fabrication and characterization tools, instrumentation, and expertise within all disciplines of nanoscale science, engineering and technology.IEN, in partnership with theJoint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN)in Greensboro, NC, created theSoutheastern Nanotechnology Infrastructure Corridor (SENIC)providing research and educational resources to students, researchers, and educators in the southeast US and beyond. In addition, IEN serves as the Coordinating Office for the NNCI network.Senior LeadershipDr. Oliver Brand;Executive Director [oliver.brand@ece.gatech.edu]Dr. Eric M.
