After a period in private practice and service in the Executive Branch, Ms. Craighill joined the Office of Legislative Counsel for the United States Senate. This is a non-partisan office which drafts legislative proposals for all members of the Senate, regardless of party or perspective.Ms. Craighill rose to the position of Senior Counsel in the United States Senate Office of the Legislative Counsel, the first woman to hold this title. During a career on Capitol Hill, which lasted more than 25 years, she specialized in such areas as trade, taxes, welfare reform, and international banking. She participated in drafting numerous pieces of major legislation including:The Tax Reform Act of 1986.The Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989.The North American Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act.The Uruguay Round Agreements Act.The Trade and Development Act of 2000.The Trade Act of 2002.The Clean Diamond Trade Act.The Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act.The Security and Accountability for Every Port Act of 2006 (SAFE Port Act).The Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006.Ms. Craighill has traveled widely both officially and unofficially. Her official travels have included work on behalf of the United States government regarding trade and legislative issues in China and Europe while her personal travels have taken her with family from Romania to Hong Kong. Ms. Craighill is currently a Professorial Lecturer in Law at the George Washington University School of Law where she teaches legislative analysis and drafting. She also teaches at the International Law Institute (ILI).
