The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. The National Federation of the Blind National Convention is the largest gathering of blind people in the world. The National Federation of the Blind is an organization of blind people sharing our lived experiences and pioneering strategies with one another in an effort to live the lives we want. Pride Month occurs in the United States to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which happened at the end of June 1969. The National Federation of the Blind s annual scholarship program is the largest of its kind in the nation. The National Federation of the Blind is closely monitoring the COVID-19 emergency, which is changing everyone’s lives but has unique effects on blind people. We are proud to have active affiliates in every state as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The NFB BELL® Academy provides children with Braille and nonvisual skills instruction through fun, hands-on learning activities. Learn more about this year’s dynamic, virtual summer program for blind and low-vision children, ages four through twelve. Early Childhood InitiativesOur early childhood initiatives provide young blind children and their families with support and guidance to master the fundamental skills of literacy and independent travel.Your donations help us distribute free white canes, provide children with Braille and nonvisual skills instruction, advocate for the rights of blind Americans, and more.
