York News view all newsThe York Athletic Department is excited to announce that the IHSA has released Phase 1 - Return to Play Guidelines allowing student-athletes to start in-person workouts and conditioning with coaches. Participation is voluntary for all students and coaches. Workouts are strictly limited to strength and conditioning activities; sports-specific skill instruction is prohibited during Phase 1 of the IHSA Return to Play Guidelines. We hope to see Phase 2 guidelines releasedlater this summer. I hope you are safe and staying well amid what can only be described as trying and troubling times. The news of recent days is both disturbing and intolerable. Our District 205 Vision ensures that all students graduate life ready. Life ready graduates in today s world must embrace tolerance and diversity. Our mission and belief statements articulate our commitment to all students. Today, we reaffirm our vision, mission and beliefs in the wake of the murder of George Floyd which has left the nation hurt, confused, and searching for answers. But, our vision, mission, and beliefs alone will not bring about the changes needed to help our students understand each other or create a culture where colleagues are treated with respect, and where an equitable education is a reality for all of our students regardless of their race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or ability. This afternoon, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker issued a statement in which he suspended in-person learning for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.At the April 28th Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 Board of Education meeting, the administration will present the board of education with options to consider for how District 205 moves forward with upcoming events such as graduation and summer school. D205 has been in regular communication with government and health officials. This afternoon, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced a decision to extend statewide school closures and the Stay at Home order until April 30, 2020.The extension follows updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and an announcement from the White House extending physical distancing guidelines until April 30, 2020.D205 Superintendent Dr. David Moyer is examining the decision and will share how this impacts district-wide plans beyond our current closure as soon as possible. The Elmhurst Board of Education approved the appointment of Shahe Bagdesarian as the new principal of York High School. He will begin his duties onJuly 1, 2020. Congratulations, Class of 2020!
