The Detroit Chapter of the IIA serves the internal audit community of th​e Metro-Detroit area of Southeast Michigan. Greetings Members! I hope you are all staying safe and healthy during this challenging time of fighting the COVID-19 virus.Back in December, the coronavirus was not even on our list of top risks, and it quickly emerged to cause a global health and economic crisis well beyond what we could have fathomed. This has been an unprecedented time in recent history. While this crisis has uncovered weaknesses in our preparation, response and recovery processes, it has also shown our tremendous strength and ability to work together, adapt, find solutions and implement vital improvements. It has truly been my honor to be the Detroit IIA President during this year. I have resolved myself to know that this will not be the year that is remembered for COVID-19! Rather, I will remember this year for all our outstanding achievements! We certainly did “Rise Up and Step Forward!” 1,260 Members Strong! 77 Years of Service! Started the year in grand fashion with a presentation and book-signing with Mr. Richard Chambers, Global President CEO! 150 members attended at The Henry. Held monthly meetings and webinars, bringing diverse topics and CPE opportunities to members. Over 270 CPE credits offered! Held CAE and Manager roundtables, an ethics training, and an on-demand ethics training. Due to COVID-19, we had to cancel our March IIA/ISACA Spring Training in Novi, but we were able to move sessions online and offer virtual training in April and May!Special THANKS the entire Board and to the Program and Spring Training Committees for making it a great year! … especially, Rick Lowe, Sajay Rai, Richard Cozart, Eulonda Whitmore, Pete Hartung, Christine Dobrovich, John Pagac, Pam Bishop, Juman Doleh-Alomary Rhoda Henderson-Fields.Special THANKS to Alan Demir our Treasurer, Christine Dobrovich our Secretary, Brian Smith our CAP Reporter, and Kamilla Williams our Membership leader, for all of your hard work through the year.Our chapter is also fortunate to have an excellent Administrator, Amber Dunn-Egerer, and an outstanding Webmaster, Richard Cozart. Message from the 2020/2021 Incoming President, Lola Foster, CIA, CFSA, CRSIC Please join me in applauding Karen for her exemplary leadership during this on-going, unprecedented and challenging time. I would also like to recognize and thank the board and committee members that supported Karen last year and helped drive the Chapter’s success. I am honored to have served as Vice President last year and equally grateful to be elected incoming President. I look forward to working with the officers and other volunteer leaders to attain another year of Gold Status with the IIA-North America.This year we will continue to Rise Up and Step Forward with programs and training opportunities for each phase along the internal audit career path. The officers have already begun reviewing communications technology to ensure delivery methods accommodate member preferences. Scott received his B.A. from the University of Michigan - Dearborn, M.A. from Wayne State University, and Ph.D. from Michigan State University.  Scott and his wife Kendel have two daughters. FEDERAL ECONOMIC OUTLOOK ~ THE IMPACT OF COVID – 19 Paul Traub, Senior Business Economist, Federal Reserve Bank of ChicagoPaul Traub currently holds the position of Senior Business Economist at the Detroit Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago where his responsibilities include both research and current analysis.  Prior to joining the economic research department of the Chicago Fed, Traub was the president of Scenario Economics LLC and senior economist for Americas Commercial Transportation Research Company, LLC (ACT Research). Traub retired in 2008 from the position of corporate economist with 25 years of service at Chrysler LLC.  He worked in Chrysler's corporate economist's office for over 17 of those years where his responsibilities included tracking the economy and forecasting its impact on North American auto sales; supporting new product development; and speaking to auto dealers and numerous professional organizations.  His speaking engagements have included the Michigan and Ohio Governors' Councils of Economic Advisors, the Society of Automotive Analysts Automotive Outlook Conference, the Forum on Global Energy, Economy and Security (The Aspen Institute) and the Bear Stearns Global Transport and Logistics Conference.  Traub currently is on the board of directors of the Detroit Association of Business Economists; is a member of the National Association of Business Economists and the Detroit Economic Club; is on advisory boards for Lawrence Technological University College of Management, Baker College of Flint Business School and the U.S. Army TACOM LCMC; and has served as an adjunct faculty member at Oakland University in the School of Business. As the founder of the Michigan Cyber Range, Dr. Adams has significant experience in workforce development and training. Watch Download presentation Recorded Webinar: Seeing the Risk Management Forest for the Trees Date: 2/19/2020   Time: 12 to 1pm  CPE Credit(s):1 Presenter: Jeff Sisolak, CISM, CISA The National Institute of Standards and Technology or NIST has issued a comprehensive library of special publications related to cyber security, risk, and their own risk management framework. The framework is compulsory for Federal systems but also gaining popularity in commercial enterprises because they are free, ubiquitous, and often necessary for doing business with government entities anyway. However, the sheer volume of this body of work can be daunting. While thoroughness and precision can be an asset, it can also make it difficult to see the forest for the trees. This presentation will define the foundational elements of any meaningful cyber security risk management program using the NIST Special Publications (SP) as a guide, with an emphasis on what it means for the internal auditor. It will cover the more common documents such as 800-37, and 800-53. It will cover more obscure documents such as SP 800-18, SP 800-60 vol. I II, and other related documents not published by NIST. It will conclude with tips and techniques for any cyber security risk management audit program, regardless of the actual framework in use.
