Description:

By Jim “Giacomo” Gatto With millions of Americans getting closer and closer to eviction and declining in to poverty, there has yet to be a new stimulus bill to address the needs of at least 40 million Americans. The Democrats, for their part have passed a bill somewhere in the range of 3.4 trillion dollars. That bill has been sitting on Mitch McConnell s desk for two months. On Tuesday, McConnell announced that he would introduce a slimmed down bill for a vote in the Senate on Thursday. One he is sure will not pass. The bill is for somewhere around 500 billion less than half of a bill he himself proposed in July. That bill was sure to die on the floor in the Senate. So now, two months later when so many Americans are far deeper in the hole, he is proposing a bill for less than half the amount then his original, and already, insufficient proposal. McConnell is playing politics with the well-being of the American people. But he s got a problem. Some of those people are his constituents. And eventually the chickens are going to come home to roost. The question is how long does McConnell have before it s too far gone? Tweet Follow meBy Janet Grace Netflix picked up an old Fox gem after the fans revolted upon learning of its cancellation. The comedy, drama-dy, Lucifer, is as spicy as that salsa you picked up in error. Its premise is that the supreme ruler, king of hell, the infamous fallen angel, takes a vacation in Los Angeles, City of Angels and meets someone who makes him want to be his best self.It becomes a wanna-be love story which we watch with hopes that it ll eventually fulfill on its promise. Without ruining the story plot, let s check this out, shall we?Those familiar with the one book that mentions numerous atrocities caused by the GOOD the book is supposed to be about, causes one to ask: with friends like these, who needs enemies? Tweet Follow meBy Randy “The Commish” GordonOver the years, one of the most-frequently asked questions of me is “What was my favorite fight I ever covered?” The question is a tough one, as I have covered the gambit, from A to Z, from Ali and Arguello to Zarate and Zamora. Since the mid 1960’s, I’ve seen ‘em all. Since the mid-1970’s, I’ve covered ‘em all. That one fight, the one which sits at the top of my long list of favorite fights, took place in 1981. Next week happens to be the 39th anniversary of the fight. September 16. It was a battle for the undisputed Welterweight Championship. It turned into a war of attrition in blazing heat. Thinking about the fights’ anniversary is all I needed to remember that event…and share my memories of it with you. Tweet Follow meBy Frank J Kuhel, JR.With all the protests because of the George Floyd case and all the other people of color violently abused, permanently maimed and wrongfully killed by the police the topic of slavery has come back into the public consciousness. Some are calling for monetary reparations to be paid to those whose ancestors were held as slaves by the European rich that founded America. I believe that those that profited off the “peculiar institution”, as it was euphemistically known, should make reparations for their crimes as Georgetown University did in 2016. As Americans we see slavery as starting with the enslavement of black people by the Europeans who colonized and conquered the North American continent but it has a much deeper and hateful history going back to the beginnings of human civilization. Slavery has existed on every populated continent throughout time. Tweet Follow meBy Radical RhymesI was scrolling down my Twitter feed recently and I came across a discussion about feeling under siege. Two US citizens were discussing the possibility that if Trump loses in November, and I pray to the universe he will, would he leave quietly? Would there be pitched battles in the street? One was a veteran trying to reassure a civilian that if things did deteriorate to become a privatized civil war, there were enough armed progressives to make the right wing gun nuts sorry for it. She responded that her husband had firearms and she would dig in and protect her loved ones and property. Tweet Follow meBy Adam Deegen (Special Contributor to Ringside Report)As we creep closer to the 2020 election, our country finds itself in crisis. No, not the crisis of a global pandemic. No, not the crisis of soaring national debt. No, not even the crisis of systemic racism, or a President who fans the flames of fear and promotes policies of hate. This crisis is even more dire and threatens the very foundations of our democracy. Our world today faces a crisis of disinformation, of alternative facts, and of disparate realities. We are not talking about the hokey attempts at truth perversion one encounters in checkout line of the grocery store. This is a precision campaign designed to generate division and cynicism, and if we do not find a way to break the cycle of ignorance and conspiracy our nation is doomed to fall. Tweet Follow meBy Robin Edgell, LMSWOh. My. God. What the hell 2020? This was supposed to be THE YEAR. I mean, seriously? This was supposed to be the most awesome year EVER. Cinco De Mayo fell on a Taco Tuesday. Halloween falls on a Saturday and with a full moon, natch. But no. You had to go and fuck it right up. Fires in Australia. Fires on the West Coast. Two hurricanes in the Gulf. The worst recession since the Great Depression. A global pandemic. Kobe Bryant, Chadwick Boseman and John Lewis.Really, 2020? Kobe, Representative Lewis and Black Panther? Tweet Follow meBy Anthony “Zute” GeorgeBellator 246 takes place on September 12th at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. It can be seen in the USA on DAZN. The main card is stacked with appealing matchups for the fans to enjoy. The fighters spoke with the media today. Here are some quotes and elements to look for Saturday night.Derek Campos Vs Keoni Diggs (lightweights):The veteran Campos is pitted against Diggs, an undefeated prospect. Campos was scheduled to fight Roger Huerta. However, the replacement does not seem to bother Campos as he told the press that he was able to prepare and make the necessary adjustments against his new opponent by studying film. The fact that this fight is at lightweight is a big deal for Campos, as he told the press, “I feel that I have more power at lightweight…more energized.” Diggs was scheduled to fight on the preliminary card and was able to get this fight when Roger Huerta could not fight. Diggs points to “a lot of years of hard work,” as a deciding factor for being in this position. I am, first, a mom of four amazing children; two of which have successfully achieved adulthood status, all of which are surviving and thriving. I am a trauma survivor, childhood domestic. I am most certainly not a victim, though I have been raped with a frequency that might suggest otherwise.I am a soul reader: or in cerebral terms; I hold a Master’s in special education with a behavior specialist concentration as well as a Bachelor’s in special education specializing in Emotional Impairment (I.e., Mental Disorders, Mental Health, Behavior Disorders, etc.) and Learning Disabilities (I.e., Developmental Delays). I volunteered on her campaign, I put her bumper sticker on my car. I loved her plans, her policies, what she has done for consumers and students during her career. I still love her. I think she is amazing and she gave little girls hope that they could achieve anything. Tweet Follow meBy Anthony “Zute” GeorgeAlistair Overeem and Augusto Sakai competed in a great fight Saturday night. It was a tremendous treat for fight fans and just what that fight card needed that was heavily compromised because of cancellations. A heavyweight battle that appeared to be even-steven on the feet; okay, Sakai had an edge there. Overeem would probably be the first to concede to that advantage, precisely why he took the fight to the ground. When on the canvas, it was clear that Sakai has a gigantic deficiency there, which led to his demise. Augusto Sakai needs to work on his takedown and ground defense if he wants a legitimate shot against top-five competition. I realize that this declaration is not exactly cracking the Da Vinci Code. Still, sometimes the obvious needs to be stated. Tweet Follow meBy Nikki SlusherBefore we get this clusterfuckery going I want to apologize for the language I use throughout this article. I normally retain vulgarity for just my tweets, but I am like so fucking over this guy. Today’s sermon is from the book of Donald in Chapter 11 simply titled bankruptcy. Just like every other endeavor Trump has taken on now his 2020 presidential campaign seems to be depleted of funds. While most of us watched the businessman turned reality star play Mr. Successful the reality was he blew through his inheritance and bankrupted six businesses, basically going broke all before the millennium. Old habits die hard, and for the president it seems that his financial savviness has now been put to the test on his reelection campaign. Tweet Follow meBy Ron SignoreBeing liberal, not even so much a democrat, gives the perception of a more opened mind than most. Sometimes, we forget the true fight in some of these smaller battles. We know in the end our vote is voicing the ideals of a broader citizenship than ourselves. Heck, we are voting for the benefit of those who support the right-wing agenda without understanding they are only hurting themselves. These smaller battles magnified by the media get us lost in the weeds to our own main principle. Tweet Follow meBy Robin Edgell, LMSWWhen I first started writing for Ringside Report, I was asked to do a bio for the bio page. I hate doing bios. I am truly not that interesting and I don’t think anyone finds me interesting, either. But, here we are, with this being my 10th piece (woohoo!), and I have been asked why I have my pronouns listed in my bio. I figured, why not write an article to kill two birds with one stone: 1) get half of my weekly article requirement done; and, 2) if one person has asked the question, that means that more folks are wondering about it. So, let’s get to it!Let’s start with defining a pronoun. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a pronoun is “any of a small set of words in a language that are used as substitutes for nouns or noun phrases and whose referents are named or understood in the context.” Instead of having to say, “Robin writes for Ringside Report,” you can say, “She writes for the Ringside Report.” Instead of saying, “Aaron goes to school,” you can say, “He goes to school.” Tweet Follow meBy Henry S. (Please, don’t be offended. Those are his good points)Yesterday I listened to him say, over and over, when he was asked about his and the government’s response to the Coronavirus, “Oh, we’re doing a great job!” Really, you lying so and so? Really? I wonder how the hundreds of thousands who have contracted the disease feel about that and how the families of the now more than 190,000 souls who have died from it and his TOTAL, ABSOLUTE and COMPLETE lack of leadership in stopping this horror feel about it?
