Seven Proofs of Bodily Resurrection of Jesus ChristMay 3, 2017 by Amit Christian Bible provides many proofs of Jesus bodily resurrection. Here are seven of them.Jesus Tomb was empty This is the most significant proof of resurrection. The Roman soldiers, the Jewish religious leaders could not provide any reasonable explanation of missing body of Jesus.John 20:1 Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. Did the grave robbers steal Jesus body? The strips of linen and the clothe around Jesus head was still lying in its place. If the grave robbers ransacked the tomb in search of expensive spices and aloe, they would have stolen the strips too. Why would they take Jesus body but not the linens. The hollow, mummified strips of linen (like cocoon) provide a reasonable evidence of resurrection of Jesus.John 20: 6 Peter saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. Was Jesus just a spirit or ghost? If Jesus was just resurrected in spirit (like a ghost), he would not have offered to show/check his hands and side.John 20: 20 After Jesus said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.Jesus also asked the doubting Thomas to touch and put finger in his side and hands to show his wounds. This also provides a proof of his bodily resurrection.John 20:27 Then Jesus said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”Jesus breathed on his disciples. Only a living person with physical body can breathe on someone else.John 20:22 And when Jesus had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Jesus ate with his disciples.Luke 24:42 Jesus asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence.John 20:22 And when Jesus had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Weren t there only few disciples who saw Jesus alive after his death? Could they have beeb hallucinated?  Jesus was with the disciples for 40 days. He revealed himself to many. There was even one account when 500 people saw him at the same time. They could not all have been hallucinated!1 Corinthian 15:6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.Thomas (Didymus) s Journey from Doubts to FaithSeptember 18, 2016 by Amit Christian John 20:24-29Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”Have you ever wondered if you could see Jesus, touch him or hear his words? do you ever wish if only He can show you a glimpse of Himself, you would be absolutely sure of His claims? Do you ever question if God cares enough for you to come and answer your doubts? If you have ever wondered about these, you would be able to relate with the story of Thomas.Thomas (also known as Didymus) was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus. He was a fisherman from Capernaum. Although, gospels do not mention much about him, there were two major accounts of him with Jesus.First was when Jesus decided to go to Bethany to raise Lazarus from death, even though his life (and his disciples lives) were in danger. (John 10:39). Thomas uttered the following words. From his words, he seems a courageous but pessimistic person. Then Thomas (also known as Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.Second was after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus had appeared to all his disciples except Thomas. (John 20:24).  Disciples told Thomas that Jesus, their master and teacher has resurrected from the dead. What proofs did Thomas ask to believe that Jesus was truly bodily resurrected?See visibly the nail marks in Jesus hands.Touch with his hands Jesus side, where nails were. How long did it take before Jesus cleared his doubts?A week!Jesus did not appear him right away. For one whole week, Thomas wrestled with his mind and heart. His questions and doubts were genuine, he wanted to know the truth personally. Just a week ago, he saw Jesus killed brutally by the Romans and the Jewish leaders. How can he be alive again? Many times, God allows us to wrestle with doubts. He waits for the right time to answer our doubts and questions according to his sovereign will.Even though Thomas had doubts about it, he did not stop meeting with the rest of disciples. Therefore, a week later, when they gathered again. Jesus finally appeared to him. What did Jesus say to him? What does it imply?Jesus knew that he was struggling with this doubt. So He gave him the proof of his bodily resurrection. He asked him to stop doubting, and start believing in Him. That is exactly what Thomas did. When his doubts were answered, he believed in Jesus readily and joyfully.Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”Uncertainty, doubts, questions are not permanent solution. But it leads us to an answer if we genuinely and willingly ask Jesus. So what happened to Thomas?Thomas went on to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world, he traveled to various parts of the world, including all the way to India. Church traditions tell us that he traveled to Malabar, Kerala, India in about 52 A.D. He continued to preach the gospel till he was martyred for witnessing. Traditions also indicate that when the Portuguese came to India in the 16th century, they found the Christian churches that were started by Thomas. The church in India survived for 15 centuries of doubts and persecution, which was started by a doubter! What a turn around!God can change our doubts into faith, our uncertainty into assurance and our questions into triumphs, if we continue to ask and seek him.So, What questions or doubts are holding you back from complete belief and surrender to Jesus Christ? The Last Convert of Jesus ChristJuly 25, 2016 by Amit Christian Is your soul saved? , Asked John. No, I am not saved! The desparate man replied. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved! Shouted John Harper. This was not a typical evengelism outreach meeting. It happened on the starry night of 14th April 1912. Both John Harper and the man were literally hanging on for their dear lives in the middle of icy water of the Atlantic ocean.John Harper was a scottish baptist pastor from Great Britain who was invited to preach in the Moody Church, Chicago. He was on the Titanic, when it sank. He was traveling with his sister and a daughter. As the ship sank, John made sure that his daughter and sister were in one of the lifeboats, but he himself chose to stay behind. In few hours, he was clinging to the wreckage of the ship where he saw another man floating, trying to survive. In that desparate moment he asked the most important question. Is your soul saved? John Harper continued to preach the gospel to the very end of his life. The unknown survivor lived on to tell the story of John Harper s passion for the gospel. He was the last convert of John Harper. It is amazing to know that God s love for us is so deep that He is willing to send his people in the most unusual places.Have you ever wondered how far will Jesus go to reach out and save the lost? Luke 23:39-43 tells us the incredible story of Jesus s last convert before death on the cross!Luke 23:39-43One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us! But the other criminal rebuked him. Don’t you fear God, he said, since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong. Then he said, Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. Jesus answered him, Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise. We are reminded, how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for us. (Ephesians 3:18)How will you share the Love of Christ today?Read More about the Story of John Harper here.It Is Finished God s perfect plan for the Sinful WorldFebruary 23, 2016 by Amit Christian “Is it not finished, Are you not done, yet ?,one of my relatives asked me.“How much more are you going to study?”I had been doing my Ph.D. for about seven years including the masters program. Every one in my family was wondering, if I will ever finish it! I considered myself a career student then. But the day finally came in 2010. It was finally done. All these years of hard work paid off. “It was finally done.” As I look back to those years, I still wondered, how my wife and I survived through those years! As I had been studying the book of John, I was reminded of the finished work of Jesus Christ. In John 19:30, Jesus’ final words on the cross were,When he had received the drink, Jesus said, It is finished. With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. – John 19:30This however, this was not the only time, these words were recorded in the bible. In Revelation 16:17, where God is about to pour of the last (seventh) of His final judgment of His wrath on the earth, it is written. The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!” – Revelation 16:17In Revelation 21:6, at the beginning of new heaven and new earth, Jesus said these words,He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. So, here is the summary of God’s perfect plan for the sinful world. In John 19:30, God removed the Power of Sin through His Son Jesus Christ. In Revelation 16:17, God removed the Punishment (penalty) of Sin through His SonIn Revelation 21:6, God removed the Presence of Sin from the world through His Son.Praise be to God.So next time, when you feel stuck in your job, or relationship or your life as a whole, remember God s perfect and finished plan for your life through His Son Jesus Christ.Do Not Worry about TomorrowOctober 26, 2015 by Amit Christian Bible Study DevotionalMatthew 6:25-34Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear? For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.We worry about so many things. In fact, we are surrounded by worry.Money, finances, bills, mortgage, taxes, safety, work, kids, parents, family members, health, sickness, ageing, debts, loans, diet, marriage, cooking, cleaning, school… the list goes on and on According to one of the statistics (link), we worry about14 hours a week, that is700 hours per year1885 days in an average lifetime5.2 years of worrying! Is the opposite of worry a carefree attitude or don t worry be happy kinds of attitudeThe opposite of worry is Trust.Who knows the future? (Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and future.”)According to Jesus, what should we focus on and why?Do I worry about my life? How can I be assured of my future? (1 John 5:10 “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”)How can I have attitude of trust in God in uncertain situations. You might wonder it’s a Spring season. Well, you are right, but it is also a time of Tax Season !s Around March-April of each year, most people in America file their taxes, many even waiting till the last moment! It is the time when many of us ask the question, why should I pay taxes? Why should I give my hard earned money to the government? Have you ever wondered what would be Jesus opinion about paying taxes? Did he actually pay taxes (Matthew 17:24-27) ? Did he ever talk about paying taxes, money issues? The answer is off course emphatic YES. He often preached about the money matters and financial decisions that we make every day. Today, we are going to look at a passage about Jesus view on Taxes.Historical BackgroundIn the first century Israel, the Jews were required to pay taxes to the Roman government. They hated this taxes because the money went to the treasury of Caesar and it was a constant reminder of their subjection to the Roman rule. There had been revolts against the Romans, but the Romans were ruthless in suppressing even the smallest of uprisings and rebellions. In times such as these, Jesus was asked the question about the taxes to Caesar. The Jewish religious party (the Pharisees) and the political party (the Herodians) did not like Jesus, they wanted to trap Jesus so that they can find a way to arrest him. So they came up with this foolproof question to catch Jesus off guard. [Read more ]
