We are pleased to inform you about two large, free conferences which are taking place in
Organised by the What Makes the Difference? Project (WMTD) and CareandHealth, these two national conferences provide a unique opportunity for policy makers, managers and involved young people to come together to hear about and discuss the key messages from the Care Matters: Time for Change White Paper. These inclusive events aim to showcase the Care Matters proposals with related examples of practice from across the country. We will give those attending an opportunity to see how to make The Difference i.e. how workers, managers and policy makers, alongside our young people, can work together to improve outcomes.
Contributors for the conference programme include representatives from the government, DCFS, OFSTED and ADCS along with research messages from Professor Mike Stein at

There is no fee but all expenses (including babysitting) are paid. We have a think-in/dry run in London on September 13th (57.30pm) and the programme will be recorded in the evening (some time 5pm onwards) of September 27th

In this world premiere combining the talents of playwright Mike Akers,
and composer and musician, Benji Bower, fantasy and reality collide in
a blend of stark realism and anarchic comedy. As the Government
release Care Matters: Time for Change, aimed at improving the lives of
children and young people in care, City of One explores the realities for
all concerned.
Myrtle Theatre Company has developed a national reputation for their
ground breaking theatre. City of One offers the opportunity to witness a
performance which combines the experience and skill of adult
professional actors with the energy and creativity of exceptional young
performers drawn from across Bristol.
City of One builds on the success of Myrtle Theatre Companys 2006
sell-out production, Through the Wire by Catherine Johnson.
Throughout the run, there will be a series of post-show events ranging
from talks by theatre practitioners who have experienced the care
system, to cabaret featuring the writing and songs of children and young
people in care. In addition, on 10, 11, 12 September there will be a
post-show forum chaired by Government Office for the South West with
the opportunity to engage in debate on the themes of the play. Full
