The classes are very personalized as you can create your own vocabulary lists based on what you want to learn. In each lesson, the teacher types new vocabulary, sentences, and sentence structures in an online program that is accessible to the students after class. My Mandarin has greatly improved in such a short time and the teachers have given me confidence in my ability to speak more proficiently. The learning Methode with the Computer is very interesting. And as up to now I find all the Teachers very helpful and can help you make good progress. The only negative side so far: the Price for the Lessons is quite high. The online account logs all of the vocabulary and grammar you have learnt so if you're pedantic, like me, you can look over it and practice the tones to perfection. It was quite a pleasant experience. The teachers are very adaptive and helpful to their students and their learning needs. Although, i was probably learning too quickly for my own good as i learned a lot but found it very hard to completely grasp the thought process of the language. I started off with absolutely no knowledge of Mandarin at all and it was very daunting! My teacher has been the same teacher the whole way through which has made the process much more personal and comfortable. The lessons are fun, interesting and engaging. The style of teaching builds on your gained experience/confidence. If I have ever ask my teacher to teach me something/show me something in particular, she has always been really helpful and positive. She quickly built up my confidence with Mandarin which made me much more enthusiastic to learning it! The admin & organisation is also good. There's no denying that learning a new language (especially Mandarin) is inherently difficult and requires a lot of input from the learner, but the teachers at TM really do help to support this. The school's atmosphere is nice with plenty of tea/coffee if you want to spend some time studying before/after class. The teachers are all very friendly and professional. I found their teaching style to be very natural and felt my speaking/listening ability improved a lot in the time I was there. They were also happy to change teaching topics depending on my needs/goals.If I had to give any criticism it would be that I did not find the online app mandarincafe to be extremely useful and I ended up using the printed notes I was given, as well as supplementing with flash cards and apps like Pleco.However, overall it was an excellent decision and I am very happy with my progress.Thank you That's Mandarin! Margrethe Chua 07:25 24 Jun 16 I really liked the fact that I could tailor my learning to the actual scenarios I experienced. The teachers I had were always willing to help me say the sentences I wanted to learn. Teaching me the proper sentence structure and parts of speech was also very helpful to know. I found it very helpful when one of my teachers encouraged me to try to speak in Chinese the whole time and she would use Chinese majority of time to speak to me even when to explain what a word means. Use of hand gestures and pictures without using English was also very helpful. Typing out all the sentences and words we talked about is very useful. Asking me to translate the pinyin to English and English to pinyin is a good teaching technique. I like that coffee, tea, and water is provided.
