Getting Help If you need help with these services, please contact us via our helpdesk. Support requests are high during this period. We administer help requests as a department and will assign the requests to available staff. As an additional resource, NUS faculty should encourage students to avail themselves of audit courses on edX and Coursera to supplement their learning. CDTL has opened additional workshops and online webinars. Click here to access CDTL Toolkit for e-Learning. A guide to CIT Teaching and Learning Plan. Lectures| Tutorials Seminars| Digital Assessments Display a week by week lesson plan with Learning Flow. Post Announcements and notices to the students. Files To upload lecture slides and assignments. To allow students to submit their homework. Discussion Forum To give students a space to clarify doubts and for instructor to clear up misunderstood points. Multimedia To host related video files. Quizzes Request for your past web lectures to be uploaded to LumiNUS. Request for your lectures or seminars to be recorded. Seminar Rooms For seminar rooms, the recordings will only include the computer's screen and your voice. It will not include a recording of the room's whiteboard. Rest assured that should you opt for this option, CIT will assist you in familiarising yourselves with the technology required for a successful session. Create an audio recording (from PC or mobile) of your lecture or tutorial (podcast) and upload audio with lecture slides or tutorial topics to LumiNUS Multimedia tool. PowerPoint has an audio recording option to allowyou to record and narrate slide by slide. Self-recording of Lecture Videos Software can be installed at home and works on both Windows and Mac. Panopto Panopto, which is integrated with LumiNUS, will capture whatever is displayed on the computer screen and instructors can add narration as they navigate screen by screen. The screen recorded file is integrated to LumiNUS directly. Camtasia Record your screen and edit videos with a powerful, yet easy-to-use video editor to create professional-looking videos. Windows users may install the software from NUS IT Software Center App. Mac users can request a license key from CIT. Please contact CIT if you require assistance for your lecture videos, for example: lightboard recording, animation, on location shoot, etc. Please note that this type of videos would require more preparation and time to produce and at times there will be cost involved. Please have your outline ready for discussion with CIT as soon as possible and CIT would be able to advise you on the time and cost required to produce the videos. Live online lectures can be carried out using Zoom and it can accommodate up to 300 students. Instructors can share their desktop, applications and annotations live to students locally and overseas. If required, instructors can also create break out rooms to break students into different discussion groups and then bring them back into the main session after the group discussion. Zoom sessions can be recorded and videos can be shared with the students after the session. Please inform your students beforehand that the session will be recorded. Instructors and students would need an internet connection, headset with microphone and a web camera (optional). Instructors can schedule these sessions through the Conferencing tool in LumiNUS. Poll Everywhere Poll Everywhere can be used to quickly test your students’ understanding on a topic and also gather questions from your students. This should be used during a live session, for example live online lecture using Zoom where you can share your Poll Everywhere slides on the screen to show the students the responses as they come in. Microsoft Teams Microsoft Teams allows you to have a group chat with your class. You are also able to distribute files through Teams. You can use Teams for discussion or also as another tool for announcement. TUTORIALS SEMINARS Recording lectures is straightforward, compared to conducting an online tutorial. SUPPORT Display a week by week lesson plan with Learning Flow. Post Announcements and notices to the students. Files To upload lecture slides and assignments. To allow students to submit their homework. Discussion Forum To give students a space to clarify doubts and for instructor to clear up misunderstood points. Using the discussion forum, topics can be discussed at length and it is more structured than chat. Multimedia To host related video files. Quizzes Live online tutorials can be carried out using Zoom. Both instructors and students can share their desktop, applications and annotations. Microsoft Teams Microsoft Teams allows you to have a group chat with your class. You are also able to distribute files through Teams. Office Lens If your tutorial questions have answers that requires drawing or calculation, you can recommend students to use Office Lens to take photos of their answers and submit them or share them during live online tutorial. Telegram (not supported by CIT) Telegram is widely used and it has end to end encryption as well, so it can be used for group communication. Comparison: Microsoft Teams vs Telegram Participation marks You may have to reconfigure how you give participation marks. If you feel this cannot be done optimally or fairly, you may need to reallocate the participation marks to other graded components. The type of class activities You may not be able to conduct activities which involve student use of props or apparatus online. Some thought needs to go into how to adapt these activities or to replace them with other activities. Questions types available: Multiple choice, Essay, True or False, Fill in the Blank, Hotspot. Full / partial lockdown on students’ device is possible. ExamSoft - Performance Assessment Students are able to submit one or multiple files for their answers. There’s a limit of 10MB / file. LumiNUS Quiz Questions types available: Multiple choice, Multiple response, Essay, True or False, Fill in the Blank, Matching. Lockdown on students’ device is NOT possible. LumiNUS File Submission Folder Without Turnitin Integration Students are able to submit one or multiple files for their answers. There’s a limit of 1GB / file. LumiNUS File Submission Folder With Turnitin Integration Students can only submit one file for their answer. There’s a limit of 40MB / file. Since Turnitin checks similarity between submission, the answers must be text based. Images such photos of handwritten answers are not possible. In order to ensure the robustness of digital assessments, you are advised to follow good assessment practices to minimise the occurrence of cheating or dishonest behaviours by students. More detailed information can be found here. Rest assured that CIT will assist you in familiarising yourselves with the technology required for a successful assessment.
