Home We are one of 5 Army Cadet Corps in Calgary and part of the greater Canadian Cadet Organization. The cadet program is geared towards youth between the ages of 12 – 19 and focuses on developing active and responsible citizens, while building life and work skills. We are affiliated with the Calgary Highlanders, a Canadian Army Primary Reserve Infantry Regiment, who are based out of Mewata Armouries, as are we. We meet once a week from September to June. Each evening will cover various topics including leadership, citizenship, outdoor survival, air rifle marksmanship, physical fitness, drill, public speaking and many more! We also have on average one weekend every month and a half for field training exercises to give you hands-on experience of the skills taught during the weeknight. During the summer, you have the opportunity to attend a summer camp, where you get paid to learn! Summer camps range from one week to 6 8 weeks long. You get to meet cadets from all across Canada, make life-long friends, and earn a little bit of spending cash at the same time. The Army Cadet program is free to join, however, it is not free to run. It is a federally sponsored program between the Department of National Defence, the Army Cadet League of Canada, and our local sponsor, the Royal Canadian Kensington Legion, Branch 264. These groups, along with our Corps Unit Support Group (made up of amazing parents and interested community members like you!) develop fundraising campaigns to supplement the mandatory training of the cadet program and allow us to cover extra weekend field training exercises, first aid, marksmanship training, and Pipes and Drums training, to name a few. This is an incredible program that will teach you skills that can be applied to sports teams, extra-curricular activities, and work. You will make life-long friends and experience opportunities to challenge yourself, while having fun and learning something new!
