HESS IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the United States. IU School of Medicine physicians and scientists were awarded approximately $362 million in research grants and awards in fiscal year 2019 to study the underlying causes of disease, the development of new therapeutics and how to improve the delivery of care. This marks a nearly 40% increase in five years and is a record for the school—demonstrating its growing national reputation as an institution that conducts high-impact, patient-centered research. Funding to IU School of Medicine specifically from the National Institutes of Health—the gold standard in medical research—totaled about $150 million in federal fiscal year 2018.
