BBISS director John Crittenden recently published a cover story with co-author David Kujawski in the professional journal, Water Technology.  The article appears in the May/June 2020 edition, and is entitled “Oil Refining and Petrochemical Wastewater Treatment: Creating a Better Mousetrap.”  The piece describes the current common practice for treatment of industrial wastewaters using biological methods, with a particular biological method known as activated sludge being used for the most difficult treatment scenarios.  These methods have been in use for about the past seven decades and their effectiveness at treating the most difficult waste streams is somewhat limited.  Electrochemical Advanced Oxidation Processes (eAOPs) offer notable advantages over conventional methods, especially with waste streams that contain high levels of complex hydrocarbons and exhibit highly variable levels of contaminant concentration.Read More...
