Description:

Dear Snohomish School District Families,In response to recent events across the country, I want our community to know that as a district, we do not condone racism, injustice, bigotry, or hate. Our students, families, and staff of color are an integral part of the fabric of our community, and they are valued. Their voices, stories, and lives matter to us. Specifically, I am deeply saddened by the death of George Floyd a heartbreaking reminder of the African-American community s continued struggle against racism. Our district cannot be silent on the issue of racism and it is our responsibility to help end this injustice. Our voice, actions and decisions must be evident through our work in cultivating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment for our students of color. The work is arduous and requires courage, grace, vulnerability, and persistence. For the sake of our young people and their future, we must engage in the work wholeheartedly and peacefully. We each have voice and can institute change when working together. As a district, we need to have continued collaboration and dialogue around how we can ensure that our students of color feel safe, welcome, and valued in our schools, in our community, and in our country.I encourage you to speak to your child about racism and recent events.
