Many more horses can be elevating the lives of people with and without special needs. The Five Freedoms At the core of our mission is safeguarding the comfort and dignity of America's horses throughout their lives and sharing their ability to empower, teach and heal with as many people as possible. We are committed to ensuring that horses involved in any role and in any capacity - as athletes, companions, teachers and healers - are safe, protected, and treated with dignity as partners. The Five Freedoms are internationally accepted standards of care that affirm every living being's right to humane treatment. Freedom from hunger and thirst by ready access to fresh water and diet to maintain health and vigor. 2. Freedom from discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area. 3. Freedom from pain, injury, or disease by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment. 4. Freedom to express normal behavior by providing sufficient space, proper facilities, and company of the animal's own kind. 5. Freedom from fear and distress by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering. Embracing the Five Freedoms ensures that we meet the mental and physical needs of animals in our care. •EMPOWER equine charities to operate at the highest standards for horse care and service and be fully transparent by providing them with financial support, recognition, guidance, and resources •INSPIRE horse lovers to become horse protectors by stimulating advocacy and volunteerism •EDUCATE the public on the value of horses in our lives by sharing stories of their amazing achievements and contributions Equine Welfare Network Connecting enthusiasts with equine organizations across America Learn More > Setting standards for the care and service of America's horses Learn More > Providing opportunities for horses in transition Learn More > Partnerships & Alliances Partnering to improve the way horses are treated and perceived - it takes a village!
