About Employment FirstEmployment First is a policy to ensure every individual of working age has an opportunity to seek employment. Agencies are directed to provide a person-centered planning process for every individual of working age to identify their desired employment goal and their place on the path to community employment.State PolicyEmployment First founding statute states that all individuals shall be presumed capable of community employment. "Presumption of employability" means that agencies start with the presumption that all people can work if provided with appropriate supports. Resources, like time and money, should be invested to determine how, not if, a person can be successful in community employment.Local InformationEmployment First really takes action at the local level. Employment First is more than work, it is about changing lives.Watch the video Innovative Technology Solutions Grant – Providers Many Ohioans with developmental disabilities encounter obstacles in daily tasks and activities, as well as accessing education and jobs. Technology can aid people to overcome these barriers and help them live fuller lives. The purpose of this project is to increase the use of innovative technologies within service delivery and service operations for individuals with developmental disabilities. This could include innovative technology solutions to expand service delivery, improve business operations, or improve individual’s access to transportation. Proposals have been submitted and are under review. Building Innovative Service Models – Providers The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) has a new grant opportunity available. DODD is seeking proposals from eligible applicants to work with selected Subject Matter Experts to work with selected DODD-certified provider agencies to create an assessment and a plan to expand innovative business strategies that adjust and align current business practices. The overall objective of this RFP is to support DODD-certified providers as they transform their organizational structures and fiscal strategies from facility-based to community-based service delivery models, including a focus on technology and assistive technology strategies in creating innovative practices. Proposals have been submitted and are under review. DODD is also looking for SME’s for this grant.Proposals have been submitted and are under review. Employer Transformation Grant – Providers DODD is seeking proposals from eligible applicants to work with a selected Subject Matter Expert (SME) who are interested in developing a business model that will transform their organizational structures and fiscal strategies from facility-based service providers to community-based employers. This grant will require the development of a transition plan with identified goals and milestones. Proposals have been submitted and are under review. DODD is also looking for SME’s for this grant.
