Given the rapidly evolving COVID-19 epidemic and the recent evacuation of all Peace Corps countries, your AARPCV board would like to offer some guidance at this time.
First off, I'd like to extend a welcome to all newly returned and returning volunteers from the global evacuation. I know a lot of us in the AARPCV community are eager to help out evacuees in any way possible. So please allow us to share a few resources that we have available:
AARPCV has made a google sheet that allows both recent evacuees and established RPCVS to both request and provide leads on housing, jobs, and other resources: https://docs.google.com/
A dedicated support facebook page for evacuees has emerged which you can find here: https://tinyurl.com/udfwza8
They have already done a lot of good ground work on gathering resources for evacuees. Keep in mind that this group covers evacuees nationwide, not just from Georgia.
AARPCV has had a mentor/mentee program for some time. While it may not be the best place to take care of immediate or one off needs, it is a great way to establish a one on one connection with an established RPCV. We are always looking for more mentors/mentees so please sign up if you’re interested: https://tinyurl.com/yx6h97f7
Finally, as we are a National Peace Corps Association affiliate group, I encourage everyone to renew or begin their free NPCA membership and link it to the Atlanta Area Returned Peace Corps Volunteer group here: https://www.peacecorpsconnect.
NPCA is looking to help evacuees by direct financial aid and congressional advocacy. You can donate to their benevolent fund here: https://www.peacecorpsconnect.
And you can contact your representatives here: https://advocacy.
Beyond these digital resources, please know that we as a community stand with you in these unusual times. Feel free to reach out to me personally if you have any questions or concerns and stay safe out there.
