Description:

I recently failed a math quiz. It was 8 questions long and I got 4 of those 8 wrong. 50%. Oh boy. What will Mom say to me about that? Well, truth is I haven t told her about it yet. I mean, the quarter has just started. Why worry her? Now, this may be a bad influence on you younger people reading this blog, but here s what I think.I am going to do good on my next test and quiz and bump the grade up in the class. So really, that quiz score doesn t matter unless I fail all of my other quizzes, which I won t. This is because I am what you call a good student . I tend to think of school and scores as a game. Beat your score as much as you can, and you ll achieve great things. Competition is a great motivator, especially when you re competing with yourself. Now, I am just like every other high schooler in the USA. I screw up sometimes and bomb a quiz or homework assignment. But you ve got to let that go and make up for it. That s what I do, anyway. The only tips I can really give you on taking a test are:1) Answer all the problems, even if you don t know what s the right answer. (Unless it s the SAT s, but that s another blog post)2) Go with your first instinct. Don t be like me and erase the right answer, fill in the wrong one and think, Yeah that sounds right to me. First instinct wins most every time.3) Don t bribe your teacher to pass you.4) Don t cheat off someone you know is failing the class.5) Don t cheat in general.6) On essay questions, ALWAYS right what you know. Squeeze it all in there. The more information you have, the more points you get, and that means a better grade. And I don t know about you guys, but the C for correct thing on multiple choice tests has never really helped me. So when you have no clue on a multiple choice test well..good luck.XOXOClarisse JacobsWhat do you do when a bully insults you? When he or she calls you out on something?I like to pretend they re on mute. Just look at them, don t listen. You can stare at their mouth, which is moving, but no words seem to be coming out, and you can laugh. Well, a chuckle is more like it. Laughing could cause you to be picked on more by the big bully. A chuckle that s noticeable and can be heard, is great! It s a way to tell the bully you could care less about them(even though we know that it does hurt to be bullied, and you probably do care). After you chuckle at the stupid and useless remarks from the bully, just go back to your work. Start writing or working problems out, do homework in front of them, don t look at the bully or talk to them. Act as if you can t hear them, like they re on mute. If you re at lunch and your bully confronts you, just ignore them. Talk with your friends about a movie or how fun your class was. Make the conversation happy, and laugh with your friends. When you don t pay any attention to the bully, you re rejecting them. They want the attention, they want a response. Don t give them one and it ll drive them crazy.XOXO,Clarisse JacobsYou walk into the classroom, sit down near some friends. The teacher introduces herself, and ask a few students about their summers. One kid only replies with, I did nothing all summer, which doesn t impress anyone, including the teacher. Here s the thing:If the teacher asks you a question ANSWER!But if she asks if you have any questions after she lecturess the class on rules, etc ..You should NOT be raising your hand. The instant you do, you get labeled as geek . No one may say it to your face, but it s on their mind.If you notice when your teacher asks you if you have any questions, most likely, not ONE student is raising their hand. This, my friend, is a signal.A signal for you to NOT raise your hand.Simply sit there as if you could care less.Sit there and don t talk. No hand raising until 2 weeks after the first day of school.MINIMUM IS TWO WEEKS PEOPLE!XOXO,Clarisse JacobsToday was my first day of school. I didn t know it was a half day until my friend told me this morning. This means: no lunch. I had packed my lunch. My tip to you?Carpool. If you don t have a bus near you to catch in the morning, talk to your friends about carpooling. I carpooled today and picked one of my good friends up on the way to school. When I got out of the car with my lunch, she told me it was a halfday(I HAD NO CLUE!). So I gave my mom my lunch to put back in the refrigerator. Thank god for friends, they save you embarrassment and a first day of being questioned about my bringing a lunch.More facts about carpooling:-Better for your wallet (gas costs a lot, doesn t it?)-Better for the environment. (Less gas fumes= less pollution)-You look cool coming to school with a group of your friends and not walking alone through campus.-You can ask your friends about homework if you didn t get the assignment. (Only ask if you know your friend is smart)XOXO,Clarisse JacobsNow that you have the outfit for a good first day and the map to not get lost, you ll need to have the attitude. If you can, walk like you know where you re going. Walk like a movie star. Be confident. Get yo swag on girl. When you first get to school, say hi to a few friends quietly.DO NOT DO THE FOLLOWING:1. Happy dance about being in high school2. Yell anything3. Eeeep with your bestfriend when you see a cute guy4. Flirt with that cute guy5. Raise your hand in class, unless the teacher calls on you.6. Call the teacher teach or by her first name. (anything that isn t what you should be calling her)7. Get in trouble for chewing gum or eating in class8. Trip on anything9. Act like you re all that in a bag of chips. Because you re not.XOXO,Clarisse Jacobs Back-to-School FashionI know, I know. Choosing one outfit out of your whole closet can be tough. My advice to you, is to keep it casual. I dressed up on my first day, and got many compliments from my friends, but a lot of head turns. Head turns are something you don t want during your first 2 weeks of high school. But I survived, so if you do glam it up too much, you will too. Here s some pictures of ideal back to school outfits! These styles are all within a good price range. I suggest going to outlet stores and finding good deals. It always works for me!
