We fulfill this mission through synergistic programs of curating and continuously expanding the leading global archives on computing and society, and running an interdisciplinary history research center. The CBI hosts major conferences/symposia and smaller workshops, engages in sponsored research, publishes scholarly books and articles, conducts oral histories, provides editorial leadership, manages fellowship and grant programs, has public history programming, and contributes to education on campus and beyond. We are a partnership of (and supported by) the Program in the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine, College of Science and Engineering; and Archives and Special Collections, University Libraries. More CBI Research ProgramCBI conducts major sponsored research projects with support from the National Science Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, DOE/Los Alamos, and DARPA. Our projects typically entail extensive research-grade oral histories, unique archival collecting, and peer-reviewed scholarly publications, creating an infrastructure for computer history. CBI research is published with MIT Press, Johns Hopkins University Press, Wiley/IEEE Computer Society, ACM Books, and IEEE Annals of the History of Computing. CBI also supports research outside the Institute (Tomash Fellowship and Norberg Travel Grant) and works collaboratively with individuals and organizations throughout the world. More
